NEWSLETTER: What We Did At Rhinebeck

This past weekend I hosted a trip to the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival in beautiful Rhinebeck, NY (otherwise known affectionately in the knitting community as just "Rhinebeck"). Here's a quick recap of our fun day!
Rhinebeck
The weather was cold and crisp. It even snowed on Sunday! But the leaves were gorgeous, as usual this time of year.

Knitting on the Bus
We joined about 40 other knitters on the bus from Patricia's Yarns in Hoboken, NJ. Here's a photo of our little group.

Goodie Bags!
Each participant received a goodie bag from me containing:

Popular Knitwear
Foxes and sheep were the popular knitwear subjects this year.

Fox Crossing by Simone Kereit of OwlCat Designs
(modeled by the Designer!)

Sheep Heid by Kate Davies_

Baa-ble Hat by Donna Smith

And there was this lovely lady with crocheted bell bottoms!

Sheep and Goats and Alpaca!
Fiber making animals were plentiful.

Designer Talks
Kathleen Dames and Lars Rains, two fabulous knitwear designers, joined us for lunch to talk about their design process. Kathleen shared a fabulous tip on how to insert zippers on sweaters without sewing

I'm wearing my just-finished Sundance sweater coat (worn as a vest because I ran out of time to make the sleeves!) and a spider headpiece (so the group could spot me in a crowded barn!)
(Do you like my new design as a vest, or do you think I should put sleeves on it?)

Lots of attendees this year!

Yarn Winding
Most of the yarn we bought was packaged in hanks which need to be wound into balls before knitting. I brought my ball winder and swift so we could wind the yarn on the bus ride home.

Maybe next year you can join us! Happy Fall Knitting!
Come join me on Ravelry and let's knit together!
