KEDA honors Jim Carmichael & Ed Stern for outstanding service to Kitsap

On March 21st, the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance honored two local Economic Development Champions for their outstanding service to KEDA and their many contributions to Kitsap. Retired Kitsap Bank CEO, Jim Carmichael & Poulsbo City Council member, Ed Stern were recognized March 21st when 120 local business and community leaders gathered at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club in Bremerton for KEDA's Annual Meeting. The videos and the fresh new Kitsap Connected webpage were presented at KEDA's Annual Meeting on March 21st by project producer, Hal Calbom of Sustainable Media Group. Hal explained that this project is a result of a vision that he and KEDA Executive Director, John Powers hatched early in 2012 as a vehicle for "Telling and Selling the Kitsap Story". "We recognized that there was a compelling story to be told here and fortunately, seven of KEDA's investor-partners also saw the possibilities and opportunities and stepped up to provide funding for the project." Grants up to $100,000 available for improving broadband access and use
OLYMPIA - The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced that applications are available for the 2013 Local Technology Planning Team
grant program. The grants awards will range from $50,000 to $100,000 and are part of the work of Commerce's Washington State Broadband Office. This is the second year of the grant program and last year's grant recipients gathered information on community needs through meetings and surveys, improved mapping of broadband service areas and began planning programs to help low-income families use the internet. Read more...Pope Resources and the state Department of Ecology reached an agreement March 22 for completing the cleanup of Port Gamble Bay, after negotiating three weeks beyond a deadline Ecology had set. The deal also assures state funding to help the Kitsap Forest & Bay Coalition purchase a substantial area of shoreline owned by Pope Resources. Read more Olympic College among recipients of $18 million for projects to reduce energy costs OLYMPIA - Olympic College will receive a grant of just over $1 million from the state's Energy Efficiency Grant program. The City of Bremerton and Mason County each will receive about $500,000, and Kitsap County will ge a $33,634 grant.
An estimated 543 jobs will be created by this construction spending. The total cost for all the projects is more than $66 million, including more than $48 million in non-state funding. Read more...
