It was the fifth section title in the history of the program for SAMOHI, which has reached the finals eight times in the last 92 years. It was the squad's second CIF-SS championship under coach James Hecht, who guided the team to the throne four years ago. And it was the 24th consecutive victory this season for the Vikings, who haven't lost a game since December 11, 2015.

Coach Kersee Goes for Gold in 9th Consecutive Olympic Games
Coach Bobby Kersee is the most successful track and field coach in the world. If all goes as expected, the Olympic Games in Rio next month will be the 9th consecutive Games in which he has coached at least one athlete on to the top podium for a gold medal. His athletes have won over 50 Olympic medals, as well as World Championships and they have set many world records.
In 1988 Bobby coached his wife Jackie Joyner Kersee to 6 Olympic Medals (including 3 Gold) and a World Record (7,291 points) in the seven event competition called the Heptathlon. Her record is unbroken. Sports Illustrated called her the best female athlete of all time!
How does one coach achieve so much? It's a blend of knowledge, intensity, and hard work that makes the best coaches. He is a technical wizard when it comes to sprinting, jumping and hurdling, but it's his passion that sets him apart. He is dedicated to get the best out of each athlete with an unrelenting drive for their success. He is truly concerned that each athlete reaches their greatest genetic potential and doesn't give up until they have. He sets expectations very high every not only when his athletes step on the track in practice and in competition, but also in life. He believes in their physical potential; and by the end of the training cycle, his athletes do too. Many former athletes have gone on to coach at elite levels, and all have been enriched having competed for him.
Florence "Flo-Jo" Joyner ( Bobby's Sister-In-Law ) won 3 Golds and a Silver medal and set
Two World Records in 1988.
I first met Coach Kersee in 1982 when a colleague asked me to join him and Bobby for an injury prevention presentation at a running store in the San Fernando Valley. We drove together from Santa Monica, and by the time we summitted the Sepulveda Pass, he had sold me on his dream to win a bucket full of medals in the upcoming Los Angeles Olympic Games.
I had no knowledge of track and field; but as a freshly minted Physical Therapist and former Division 1, NCAA competitor myself, I recognized that his passion for peak performance aligned well with my goals and experience. Two years after graduating from PT school; and a chance meeting with Bobby Kersee, I found myself working with the best athletes in the world. By the Summer of 1984 we put 7 athletes on the US team. When the LA Games came to a conclusion, we had 10 medals, and I was sold on Bobby Kersee.
Over the next 8 games we worked together with a passion for injury free, peak performance. His winning stable of athletes have included Jackie Joyner, Florence "Flo-Jo" Griffith, Valerie Brisco-Hooks, Alice Brown, Al Joyner, Jeanette Bolden, Greg Foster, Gail Devers, Andre Philips, and for the last three Olympics, Dawn Harper and Allyson Felix.
Working with Jackie through four Olympic Heptathlons has provided the foundation of injury prevention and advanced recovery techniques that we use daily at
FORSTER PHYSICAL THERAPYŽ
and PHASE IVŽ.
Each of these competitors have seen his willingness to do anything it takes to get them to their best performance, and it often comes at the Games. Rio will be no different, he will peak his athletes to be ready to reach their potential and add to his legacy as the best ever!
Coach Kersee discusses the nuisance of winning a 50 sec 400m race with 4 X Olympic Gold medalist,
Allyson Felix. Allyson is the reigning World Champion and recently overcame a serious ankle injury to run the fastest 400m time in the world this year at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene last weekend.

NYTimes: Antidoping Officials Are Expected to Ask that Russia Be Barred From Rio Olympics
By REBECCA R. RUIZ
Russia's track and field team already has been barred from the Rio Olympics. Antidoping officials are preparing to request that the entire Russian contingent be prohibited from competing.Credit Patrick Semansky/Associated Press
Antidoping officials from at least 10 nations and 20 athlete groups are preparing the extraordinary step of requesting that the entire Russian delegation be barred from the Summer Olympics over allegations of a state-sponsored doping program, according to email correspondenceobtained by The New York Times.
The antidoping officials and athletes were expected to pressure Olympic leaders on the matter as soon as Monday - less than three weeks before the opening ceremony in Rio. They were waiting for the results of an investigation into claims published in The Times of a state-sponsored doping program conducted by Russian officials at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Grigory Rodchenkov, Russia's former antidoping lab director, told The Times in May that he followed government orders to cover up the widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs by dozens of Russian Olympians at the Sochi Games. At least 15 of them won medals, he said.
Russian officials have dismissed allegations of a state-run doping program as a Western conspiracy intended to smear Russia. The country's track and field team has already been barred from the Rio Games for doping violations; calls for sanctions against Russian athletes in every sport would be unprecedented and would likely escalate the geopolitical debate.

Stretching only takes a moment, yet most of us don't do it at all, and because we don't, our bodies could be subject to unnecessary pain.
"It comes to my attention that people spend more time on the health of their teeth than they do the rest of their body," said Phase IV physical therapist Robert Forster.
Forster says we don't even do the basics to keep our system running smoothly, namely simple stretching.
"The fascia, the tendons the ligaments, they by nature tighten over time. If you leave them unstretched, they will shorten," Forster said.
And that shortening alters the position of joints at the bone, which causes poor posture, and that can lead to injury. Many of us sit for long periods of time, and that can result in tight hip joints, which can affect the spine.
Slouching at the computer or car causes the chest to tighten, head to jut forward and the upper back is thrown out of alignment, creating a host of hurt. But small stretch breaks throughout the day can really help.
If you've been listening to people in the fitness community, they will tell you stretching cold muscles can be harmful, and that you actually need to warm up tissues to make them relaxed. Forster says that's simply not true.
"Shy of death, your body is never cold. At normal body temperature, your connective tissues will stretch just fine," Forster said.
He says roll onto the floor in the morning and stretch glutes and low back by crossing one leg over the other, twisting at the waist and reaching the opposite arm overhead to stretch the pec and shoulder.
To stretch the hip flexor, kneel on one leg leaning forward into the front leg. Then sit the glute back a bit and straighten the front leg to stretch hamstrings. Of course, do both sides.
"10 seconds stretch, one or two repetitions, and move on," Forster said. "That's a quick release that gets you ready for your day." If an area is super tight, hold stretches longer - up to 30 seconds.
Tiffany Egan of Venice said she was surprised at the relief she got by simply holding hands up behind her, and then behind her head leaning back a bit. Both open the chest and strengthen upper back, and give your neck relief by grabbing one hand behind the waist and looking in the opposite direction.

When you're finished, push them down to your ankle, twist them outward 180 degrees, then pull them back up. You simply inverted the colors and now have a recovery sock! Twisting the sock not only increases the compression by 5mmHg, but also helps push the toxins out of your lower leg. The higher compression zone that was on the shin is now directly on your calf. Soreness and fatigue are reduced. In "Performance" Mode, the front compression zone is tighter, stabilizing muscles and reducing unwanted vibration, which can cause muscle soreness near the shinbone (shin splint). The calf is covered by an area featuring lower compression, in order to allow the muscle to expand. In "Recovery" Mode. Twisting increases compression and drains the calves of any remaining toxins. Result: this way, the Twist compression sock can help prevent discomfort during and after your workout. Content: 85% Nylon, 15% Elastane
Combines the key features available in all our compression socks into a single, solid color. Plain & simple. Suitable for work, play and travel. Arch support and seamless toe for extreme comfort.

The Right Way To Stretch
By Roy Wallack
Printed in the LA Times - February 6, 2016
Some experts say stretching before exercise helps performance and lessens injuries. But, believe it or not, others say stretching does the opposite.
Who's right?
Proponents point to people who can't afford to be wrong: Athletes.
The Clippers stretch before every game. And Meb Kelflezighi, an Olympic silver medalist and the 2014Boston Marathon winner, stretches before every run.
"Stretching restores your tightened connective tissue to normal length and puts your joints in correct alignment. That lets you go faster and avoid injury," said physical therapist Robert Forster, founder of Phase IV performance lab in Santa Monica.
So what to make of studies that claim the opposite - that stretching actually takes the spring out of your step and puts joints at risk by over-loosening them?
Evidence can be traced back to two 2013 studies that found that extensive pre-exercise "static" stretching (in which stretches are held in a fixed position for a minute or so) done "cold" - without a warmup - hurt the performance of weight lifters and competitive athletes.
One of those two studies, published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, found that the maximum weight fit young men could hoist after static stretching versus after no stretching was 8.3% less. The other study, published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports, found an overall strength decline in some athletes who used stretching as their only warmup. It concluded that static stretching should not be used as the sole warmup activity.

Wallack recommend the best training based on your fitness goals, including strength training, cross training, sprints, yoga, and plenty of rest. Part two goes a step further from other books by addressing the most modern methods of treatment -- including current studies on the amount of rest required, new and controversial surgical operations and injections, the newest and most effective gear, and barefoot/minimalist running as a form of healing. If you are recovering from an injury or want to prevent becoming injured in the first place, Healthy Running Step by Step is a must-have guide.

PHASE IV Scientific Health and Performance Athlete Testimonials
Phase IV Scientific Health and Performance Center and Forster Physical Therapy work with people of all ages and abilities - helping them reach their full genetic potential and achieve injury-free peak performance. We strive to help everyone accomplish their health and fitness goals, regardless of how far away they may seem. We have helped thousands of athletes meet or beat their goals, and nothing is more rewarding to our team of Exercise Physiologists and Physical Therapists than seeing someone's goals realized.
Here are what some of our clients have to say about their experience at Phase IV and Forster Physical Therapy:
THANK YOU XENO MEULLER AND BOB FORSTER PT FOR SHARING YOUR BRILLIANCE
Bob, I have to send you a bill for new jeans for Jason. His waist hasn't grown but his thighs are now too big to fit into his jeans....and the rest is getting more defined too. Your program needs to come with a disclaimer that continued use may cause need for clothes to be altered or replaced due to moderate to severe muscle growth.
Thanks - you and your people are GREAT !!
-Henry Goode (Father of Jason Goode, recent winner of the Silver Medal at the Southwest Regional Rowing Championships in Sacramento. Jason sat seat #2 with the Newport Aquatic Club Varsity 8+ Boat as they won Silver.)
"Thank you so much for all the physical therapy for my anterior tibia and overall training. Thank you for all the icing, stretching, strengthening exercises and treatments. I could not have done my first marathon without you. I finished it and my anterior tibia felt completely fine. I stretch every time before and after I run because of you. Thank you for all the advice. Ever since I started running about 10 years ago it's been one of my dreams to run a marathon. Thank you for all your help and for helping me fulfill one of my dreams. I will always remember and I tell my friends if you don't have time to stretch you don't have time to run." -Kyle Beiser
"I had this crazy dream of completing a marathon and quickly into my training; I realized I would need help with making this dream a reality. Today, as a marathon finisher, I cannot thank you enough for all the support in making sure my body was ready to hit the pavement for 26.2 miles and cross the finish line injury free. At mile 21, the middle of a long, curved hill, I found myself looking over and seeing runners dropping like flies with cramped quads, aching calves, and tightened hamstrings. While I may have said these words through tears, I said aloud 'Thank you Ron and thank you Forster Physical Therapy.' If it were not for your expertise, commitment to your patients, and passion for making people feel better than when they walked in, I would have been the person at mile 21 needing the medic. Thank you again for helping me make my dream a reality - completing a marathon injury-free!"
-Whitney Gaglio
"After a tough beginning to the cross-country season - full of injuries and health issues, Marina, my 15-year-old daughter, needed someone to put her back together. We were referred to Phase IV and after the initial evaluation, the staff provided Marina with a program that was easy to follow and fit into her high school track schedule. Marina's program included diet, strengthening, stretching, and form. Marina learned to use her heart rate as a guide for her training and ultimately ran injury-free in the 1600m, 800m, and 4X400 relay. She not only ran her personal best in track but also is leaving track healthy and looking forward to being the newly appointed cross-country team captain in the Fall."
- Lisa MacDonald - Mother of Marina Praet, 15, Phase IV Athlete and Success Story
"Tracy helped me by creating a nutrition and exercise program that allowed me to perform better while racing. Interestingly, I am running less that I would have on my own and getting better time and placement results. The prescribed mix of weight training exercises, intervals, recovery, and focus on heart rate has helped me to improve. I am excited to continue reaching my goals with Phase IV."
- Nicole Elmes - Finisher of the 2015 "America's Best Half Marathon" with the following finishing times and accomplishments:
Race total time: 1:47
Pace: 8:12
Overall place: 389 out of 5021 (top 7%)
Sex place: 113 out of 2576 (top 4%)
Division (35 - 39) place: 19 out of 444 (top 4%).
