If you are looking to increase your metabolism and strength while getting lean and toned, and who isn't, you need to weight train! Lean muscle burns more calories so if you want to decrease body fat, perform better, train for an event or just look & feel great, this class is for you!!!
About the Class:
- A Weight Training class for Women of all ages and abilities
- Each class will consist of a total body workout designed to increase muscular strength and speed up your metabolism
- The class will follow our Phase IV fitness progression developed by Phase IV Founder and CEO, Robert Forster PT, who has over 30 years experience working with female athletes of all abilities.
- It's a fun, energetic, group workout with fantastic music alongside other like-minded women (NO MEN) that will alleviate stress and leave you feeling great
- Class is designed to train your body properly through scientific principles, so you don't have to do any thinking....Just SHOW UP and HAVE FUN!

Wrestling Dropped from the Olympics? When I first I heard the report this past week that the International Olympic Committee had voted in secrets ballots to eliminate men's and women's wrestling from Olympic competition in 2020, I thought for sure I had gotten it wrong. Soon, however, my phone begin to ding with texts from friends in the wrestling community (and others far removed from it) saying how astonishing this news was. Ironically I received these comments as I was boarding the plane to New Orleans to work with MMA fighters and once I landed this partisan group had moved from astonishment to out right anger. Even those who have never seen a wrestling match agreed this seemed preposterous as wrestling is an original Olympic sport and should be maintained right along side track and field. Deeper media analysis from outlets as disparate as NPR news and ESPN have since pointed out that wrestling is as big a part of mainstream culture in countries around the world as baseball is here, and its elimination is a significant attack on the athletic world in general. Strength Training for Cyclists
There is a common misconception that cyclists do not need to lift weights or just need to work the hamstrings and quads, but both opinions are misguided. The benefits of sport specific resistance training for cyclists are numerous and compelling for both injury prevention and performance enhancement. Whether professional cyclists lift weights or not is certainly not the criteria for the value of resistance training for recreational riders. Dangers in the Gym!
|
Everyday we see research that shows exercise is the best medicine to prevent and treat many of the lifestyle diseases that plague our population. However, many people are not sure what to do in the gym and they are rightfully concerned about getting injured. Exercise is powerful medicine but proper dosage and use is critical to avoid problems and assure success.
At Phase IV we evaluate every exercise in a risk-benefit analysis. If the potential of injury is greater than the benefit, or if the same result can be attained with a safer move, the exercise is not prescribed. In this new weekly column we will address one dangerous exercise each week.
The Seated Torso Twist
Problem: This machine is designed to shape the midsection by working the abdominal oblique muscles This machine is popular with gym-goers looking to eliminate love handles by "spot reducing" fat off their waists. The first problem is that "spot reducing" is a misnomer because fat comes from the body in an overall uniform manner and working the local area where our bodies hold fat does nothing for reducing it. More importantly the sitting posture is a poor choice for exercising any part of the body because the spine is in a very vulnerable to injury in this position. When exercising in sitting the lumbar disc pressure is elevated to dangerous levels running the risk of bulges and disc herniation.
