NSGA Joins PHIT America on Members' Behalf

In an effort to help move the needle in educating Americans about the importance of sports participation and the sedentary crisis in the United States, NSGA has joined the PHIT America coalition on our members' behalf to help spread the word through social media.

Phit America, officially launching in January, is an important step in helping to encourage increased sports participation, which will benefit Americans by making them healthier and create additional consumers to shop in our member stores.  Messages will be shared regularly with NSGA, which the association will share with you and encourage you to push through your social media channels to create awareness of the sedentary crisis and provide potential solutions.

The association joined on your company's behalf to help take any financial commitment away from you.  To help spread the word, please provide the contact information of your company's social media manager to NSGA's Director of Marketing & Communications, Bruce Hammond, by emailing bhammond@nsga.org or calling 847-296-6742.

2012 Shape of the Nation Report:  Status of Physical Education in the USA

The National Association for Sport and Physical Education along with the American Heart Association recently released their 2012 Shape of the Nation Report: Status of Physical Education in the USA.  The study finds that while 75% of states mandate physical education in elementary through high school, most still fail to require a specific amount of instructional time and nealy half allow exemptions, waivers, and/or substitutions.  More specifically, the report found that the majority of states mandate that students take physical education (43 states for elementary, 41 states for middle, and 44 states for high school).  However, gaps exist in over half of these states.  33 states permit schools and school districts to allow students to substitute other activities for their required physical education credit and 28 states allow schools or school districts to grant exemptions/waivers for physical education.  For further findings, please visit http://www.aahperd.org to access the full report.

Last Month's Survey Results:  Driving Impulse Sales at Retail

Thank you to all who participated in last month's quick survey regarding judging your success at generating impulse sales.  Although the results show that about one-third of respondents felt they were at least somewhat successful, the remaining two-thirds of respondents either felt that they were unsuccessful or simply did not know.  The findings show potential that there is a significant amount of dollars being left on the table by retailers who are not capitalizing on impulse purchases.  For some tips on how to increase impulse sales, please click here to review the article from last month's newsletter.

 Q. How successful is your company at generating impulse sales?
