2014 was a very good year
Let's make 2015 even better!
There's no doubt about it: 2014 was a banner year for Yourist Studio Gallery. Here are highlights of what we accomplished together in 2014.
We
introduced a new clay bead and button making class
surveyed our customers, students, and studio members started our free, monthly Tool Time class gave the studio a major scrub-down adopted sustainable procedures to keep the studio clean welcomed new instructor Melinda Mercer hosted an RNR Ceramics workshop with Jeff Blandford got profiled in a Michigan Daily article and video
held our first Fall Pottery Sale
participated in an exhibit at the Gifts of Art Gallery
saw community artist Centurium Frost interviewed by Fox News
had our most successful Holiday Sale ever.
Best of all, we introduced many new students to the pleasures of clay, gave experienced students and artists opportunities to develop their skills, fired thousands of pieces made in the studio, and acquainted southeast Michigan with new clay artists. Let's build on our successes of 2014 and continue in the spirit of sustaining a dynamic, welcoming, inspiring studio environment and community in 2015.

Thank you!
Best Holiday Sale everCrowds of friends and neighbors came to the 2015 Yourist Studio Gallery Holiday Sale, where they socialized, enjoyed a bountiful buffet, and selected from the best of our community artists' ceramic works. Here's a photo collage of scenes from the sale:
A tremendous thank you to all the friends who visited the Holiday Sale, to the artists who participated and worked so hard to make the sale a success, and finally to the polar vortex, which stayed away this year. We hope you'll make our sale a regular event in your holiday calendar.

Potter's quick tip
Out, wax spot! out, I say!
Q. How do I get rid of a wax resist boo-boo on my pot? Is it really necessary to bisque fire the pot again, or is there a quicker method you can suggest?
A. While a second bisque firing is the most reliable way to get rid of unwanted wax resist, you can try microwaving it away. Put your pot in your microwave on high for five minutes. Your pot will be hot, hot, hot, so let it cool off before you touch it or remove it from the microwave.

How-to video twofer
Screen printing and floofing on clay
Yes, you read that right: floofing. Intrigued? Then take a look at this two-part video from glaze master John Britt. The video features potter Susan Feagin, clay studio coordinator at the Penland School of Crafts, showing how she transfers designs to clay using slips, screen printing, and floofs. Total viewing time is about 16 minutes.
Happy floofing!
