What do you think?
Give us a piece of your mind
No, seriously, we'd like to get your opinions about Yourist Studio Gallery and its services and products. As we mark the 10th anniversary at our Broadway Street location, we thought it would be a good time to take stock and plan for our next 10 years.
So we've created two quick surveys to find out what you think about us. One is for our gallery customers and the other for our students and studio users. If you are both, please respond to both surveys.
Here are the survey links:
Each of our surveys is short and takes about 2-3 minutes to complete, although we've provided you with the opportunity to tell us more if you wish. Your responses are completely anonymous. The deadline to respond to the surveys is March 15, 2014.
We encourage you to take part in our surveys and help us set the future direction of Yourist Studio Gallery. Thank you for your time and interest.

Shannon will cover a number of wheel throwing and altering techniques, along with various surface design techniques including the use of slip, carving, glaze, and wax resist. Potter's quick tip
Making a good impression with roller stamps
Q. I recently saw someone at the studio using a clever handmade clay roller stamp to make scalloped lines in clay. I want one, too. Can you tell me how to make it? A. Ceramic Arts Daily has got you covered. Take a look at this excellent short video of potter Amy Sanders showing how to make and use her versatile clay roller stamps. Opportunities abound for texturing clay. To learn more about textures and the tools for making marks in clay, don't miss Kay's Tool Talk on Sunday, March 16, at 4:30 p.m. Readers, if you have a pottery question for Kay, ask away. And if you want to revisit a past tip, you'll find earlier issues in our studio news letter archive on the News and Events page of Yourist Studio Gallery web site.

The hottest food trend of 2013
Know what the hottest food trend of 2013 was? Gluten-free? Paleo? Foraging? Actually, it was fermenting, an age-old food preparation technique enjoying a revival that shows no sign of slowing down. So, why the interest in foods trends and fermenting? Well, besides the health benefits of fermented foods, fermenting is done in ceramic crock pots. (Glass is OK, too, but ceramic pots are cooler.) In our first brief video, fermenting guru Sandor Katz explains why fermented foods are so good for us and shows how easy it is to do our own fermenting:

If this has whetted your appetite for making some fermenting crocks yourself, check out the next short video of studio potter Jeremy Ogusky demonstrating how to throw a fermenting crock:

Spring is coming so better get busy making your fermenting crocks now. Although it may be hard to believe when you look out the window today, gardens and farmers' markets will soon be brimming with fresh vegetables for you to ferment.
