The wedding season is on its way. The soon-to -be June brides, or let's say their wedding planners, are putting the final touches on the $25,000 (average cost) wedding.
Weddings are different these days. It seems that just minutes after the wedding march, you look up and the rings are out. The 60 minute wedding with all the formality is now a 15 minute affair. Before you know it, the kiss is over and they've just introduced Mr. and Mrs. Smith, man-and-wife. Now let's go party! Does anyone do the full Catholic mass anymore?
If you're not invested in the outcome, weddings are a great place to people watch and not just at the nervous couple, but their friends and families on booze. Why is it that people find weddings a great place to get smashed? Maybe it's the open bar and someone else is paying? There's a group shout-out with raised shots glasses from handsome young men with lavender shirts and fit young women with the shortest of dresses. As the night progresses, the dancing gets wilder as ex-cheerleaders re-enact their college cheers and an ex-ex-ex-cheerleader attempts the splits in a dress. There are always a few that came without dates who can't wait to leave and those who can't wait to leave with one of the might-be-available, tipsy bridesmaids.
One good note on some new-agey weddings is the minister. With the Universal Life Church offering ordinations online (including the freedom to "perform weddings, baptisms or funerals". No brises, please) almost anyone can officiate. No more boring church minister/priest. Ministers are jokey and informal, teasing the bride and groom and chiding the new bride about sprucing up her culinary skills. The couple laughs. The crowd joins in. That's more like it.
I don't remember weddings being an all-night affair. Used to be that after an appropriate amount of dancing, the cake was cut, the bride changed "outfits" and voila', off they went in someone's fancy car with cans a-dragging. Not now. At eleven, the In-N-Out Burger truck rolls up for more nourishment. The bride and groom, have not left. They're partying with their friends.
Speaking of food trucks, there's a bit of a trend of catering your reception with these rolling restaurants. According to thedailymeal.com, " Food trucks are an ongoing wedding craze--they're a cheap and trendy alternative to a commonplace buffet or course by course sit-down dinner. They're a great way to get special, unique, fresh food, out to guests on the fly" and that "guests are excited to see trucks they know and love at your wedding."
Whether it's you, your child, a friend or a neighbor, on a breezy cliff in Laguna Beach, a cold, Hyatt Hotel ballroom in Des Moine or a soft, sandy beach in Lahaina, enjoy the show with your In-N-Out Number 3 with fries.
NEXT WEEK - More on activity trackers.

Your First Yoga Class
I love beginners. Why? Because they're enthusiastic, eager and don't what what they can't do. They'll try anything. It's the intermediate students that have an entire set of poses they've decided they "can't do" or hate. I have mine. The challenge is to get friendly with the difficult. Instead of "I hate that pose" consider the language and switch to "I find that pose challenging". I know it's just semantics, but it causes a mental shift and a softening toward the pose.
From YogaAnonymous.com here are "10 Things that will Absolutely Happen in your First Yoga Class". They're funny, but mostly true. Enjoy it here.

How do you Stand (and sit and walk)?
You'd think that basic movement like walking would be natural, comfortable, and stable. This is compared to some of our pretzel yoga poses. But you know. Just look around at how people move and sit. It's shocking. Much or most of chronic back pain is due to our misalignment of our head, hips and pelvis over our feet.
Esther Gohake has made it her mission to education to realign our posture, or "restoring our primal posture". She's got a website here and a TedTalk here. Or, click above. It's long, but informative. (Thanks to Barbara for the link.)

Warrior Mind
Fear diminishes me, makes me no bigger than that part of me which fears. Fearful, I am too small to contain thought, too small to hold real compassion. Protecting myself, I will hurt others. [Read the article here.]

Be Happy on Fridays!
Instead of shots of tequila and fried artichoke hearts, spend your Friday happy hour moving and grooving at an most-levels vinyasa flow class.
On Friday's from 4:30 - 6:00, we'll end each week with an energetic vinyasa flow class. Through building heat from the inside, we'll strip out the stress hormones from the day. A long rest at the end of class will reset our nervous system and prepare us for our weekend.
You'll be done at 6:00!! That'll leave plenty of time for dinner with friends, a movie or a relaxing evening with your pooch. Or, maybe a Chia filled Kombucha or that 100% agave margarita!
