This month marks three years of my working for the Friends World Committee. The first thing I did in my new job, even before I arrived in the office, was to attend the meeting of the Central Executive Committee. The CEC functions as the board of directors for FWCC at the global level, and it includes the Clerks, Secretaries, and at-large Representatives from all four Sections. Every year, this group meets to review the work of the World Office and to prepare for upcoming programs and events. So as I head off to the CEC meeting in Northern Ireland, I'm reminded of my anniversary with FWCC, but also that this is an important opportunity to share the joys and concerns of Friends around the world. You can read more about the work of the Friends World Committee in all four Sections in Friends World News, in print or online,

Some highlights:

  • The Asia-West Pacific Section of FWCC reports on the progress of Quaker relief efforts in the Philippines after last fall's earthquake and typhoon Haiyan.
  • The Europe and Middle East Section is coordinating witness regarding climate change, Middle East peace, WWI commemorations, and unrest in Ukraine.
  • The Africa Section held its triennial meeting in April in Kenya's Rift Valley. Despite being held during Easter, the Section Meeting gathered 176 delegates from 22 yearly meetings in 5 countries.

Mustard Seed Tree The Mustard Seed Matching Campaign

Have you held off donating to FWCC because your gift is "too small"? Remember, with faith the size of a mustard seed, we can do great things! Now is the time to give to the Friends World Committee: if you have not donated in the last five years, your gift will be matched by a small group of our generous, long-term supporters. You can give online at www.fwccamericas.org/donate. And if you have donated in the last five years, invite a new Friend to make a donation this year.

FWCC volunteers needed at yearly meeting sessions
Can you help make Friends World Committee more visible at your yearly meeting sessions this summer? We are still looking for Friends who can set up and take down our colorful display and materials.  We will make it easy for you to receive and return the material. Volunteers who are visiting multiple yearly meetings are especially useful!

Contact Evan Draper via email or call 215-241-7292 to offer your assistance.

Planning for Arequipa 2016

The International Representatives Meeting (formerly called the FWCC Triennial) will be held in Arequipa, Peru in January 2016. Ramon Gonzalez-Longoria, Jane Snyder, Louise Salinas, Jesus Huarachi, Noe Alanguia, and Robin Mohr are all part of the International Planning Committee that is meeting this month to prepare for the event. This month, they'll be choosing a theme and outlining the program. While this IRM will be closer for all of us in the Americas, financial support will still be needed for Representatives from Africa and Asia to attend. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
