Registration is live for the Living Water Consultations in California and Bolivia in March and North Carolina in April. We have a good turnout already, but we want to see you there too! Update on the World Office appeal for the Philippines
We have been receiving contributions for the Philippines Appeal that was initiated by the Asia-West Pacific Section and the World Office following the devastating earthquake and typhoon that struck that country last fall. The goal was to raise funds that Friends on the ground can use for the humanitarian relief and rebuilding work that will be needed in the long term.
We have raised about US $25,000 in the Americas, with another US $13,000 from other parts of the world. Contributions have come from individual Friends, meetings and churches, and several yearly meetings around the world. On behalf of Friends in the Philippines, we thank you! On behalf of Friends worldwide, we salute Friends in the Philippines who are doing the hands-on distribution to those in need. It is a huge task.
The long term recovery work is in full swing. Friends are using these donations to help rebuild their communities and their livelihoods, including purchasing goats and small motors for fishing boats. At least one church will need to be rebuilt. FWCC has sent initial funds to both the unprogrammed and Evangelical groups in the Philippines. We plan to send the balance of the funds and report out to Friends and donors by the end of February.
On behalf of the Friends World Committee for Consultation and Friends in the Philippines, we thank you for the inspiration. It is a demonstration of caring for one another - across cultures, across theology - drawing us together as a family of Friends.
