Dill hired to succeed Hon as superintendent
Scott Dill-a public educator of 20 years experience, half of which has been in administration-was hired on Thursday, Dec. 17, by the R-I Board of Education to lead Poplar Bluff Schools into its new facilities and beyond.
Since 2012, Dill has served as superintendent of Houston Schools, a rural district 120 miles northwest, where he began as middle school principal. He was employed for a decade prior as a library media specialist at Macks Creek Schools in Central Missouri.
"I am both honored and humbled to have been selected by the board to lead the Poplar Bluff R-I School District," said Dill, who received a regional award from the Missouri Association of Administrators last year for his successful superintendency. "I eagerly anticipate the challenges and opportunities inherent to this position."
Dill is in the final stages of his dissertation toward a doctorate in educational leadership from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, where he also received his master's in educational administration along with a specialist degree. He earned his bachelor's in teaching from Missouri State University in Springfield.
"Working together, in a collaborative partnership, I am confident we will continue the tradition of excellence, which is a hallmark of this storied school and community," Dill continued, exclaiming: "Onward and upward!"

The overall winning class was Cheri Sparkman's, generating 404 pairs of socks. The top performing classes in each grade level were: Teresa Webb - first, Cindy Robertson - second, Mary Tolliver - third, and Heather Willcut - fourth. For their efforts, students got to take a horse and carriage ride around the block with Santa Gaebler.

Project Christmas Promise
A total of 951 children are slated to receive gifts through AmeriCorp's Project Christmas Promise as of this morning, according to program director Becky Winters.
Organization volunteers have set up shop in the Administrative Building for the past two weeks sorting gifts made possible through community donations. Poplar Bluff high schoolers from the Beta Club and Student Council have helped with the wrapping.
The program began in 2008, serving young people in need in the Poplar Bluff R-I School District, and expanded to include all the schools in Butler County, headstarts as well as recommendations from the Children's and Family Support Division.

During Christmas season each year, multiple schools within the district participate in a door-decorating contest. Social studies teacher Melinda Moncier's academic lab won best of show at Junior High, earning the class a pizza party. More than meets the eye, the winter wonderland display included a Christmas tree soft to the touch, the fragrance of peppermint oil, the sounds of holiday music and candy to snack on, satisfying all of the senses.
Runners up included: Keri Jameson - best craftsmanship, Mike Berry - most humorous, Juliane Gambill - most original, Kathy Beck - most traditional, and Ashley Woolard - most entertaining. The classes each won donuts.
