Sports website goes live
Pbmules.poplarbluffschools.net, the official website of the Poplar Bluff Athletics Department in cooperation with the Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club, was launched on Friday, Sept. 6.
This new online home of the Mules and LadyMules is a student-led effort run by the Poplar Bluff R-I School District's very first sports marketing interns, PBHS seniors Macy Weitzel [left] and Brittany Hall, who you will see covering home sporting events on a regular basis. Rotary Club meets 'future employees'
Eugene Field students discussed their various school leadership roles during the weekly Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Colton's Annex.
The elementary school, which has a mission of "building leaders one student at a time," is one of four schools in Southeast Missouri that subscribes to The Leader in Me initiative, based on Dr. Stephen Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."
Principal Jennifer Taylor introduced the students to the civic leaders as "future employees."
[Above] Second grade teacher Gabrielle Epps credits The Leader in Me for allowing fourth grader Jaekwon Holloway to realize that his goal of becoming the mayor of Poplar Bluff is attainable. Jaekwon is part of the announcers club at Eugene Field.

PBJHS students explore orthodontic career
Certified Orthodontic Assistant Sherri Joiner of Dr. Fox's Orthodontics practice was the guest speaker in the Exploring Careers class on Friday, Sept. 6, at Poplar Bluff Junior High School, discussing the pros and cons of a career in the dental field as well as the education required.
The previous guest for the elective was R-I School Resource Officer Jason Courtney, who talked about the law enforcement profession. On Friday, Sept. 13, Business Development Specialist Davine Conover of the Poplar Bluff Federal Credit Union will share time management and financial tips with students.

Mules in all shapes and sizes
Maximus the Mule was introduced [above] during the first home Varsity Football game of the season on Friday, Sept. 6, at Morrow Stadium, when the Mules defeated Dexter, 34-7.

Class Trip to U.S. Capitol
An informational meeting for parents of students interested in participating in the annual eighth grade class trip to Washington, D.C., will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in the Junior High cafeteria. This year's trip is planned for May 27-31, and will include participation in the laying of the wreath at Arlington National Cemetery. Pink-Out Poplar Bluff
T-shirts are on sale until Friday, Sept. 13, for Pink-Out Poplar Bluff, an annual fundraiser in support of the United Cancer Assistance Network. Pink-Out Day is slated for Friday, Sept. 27. Businesses and individuals interested in supports local cancer treatment assistance, please contact teachers Jenn Nicolini at jnicolin@pb.k12.mo.us or Hope Conover at hconover@pb.k12.mo.us to receive an order form.
Collaboration Day
Due to teacher Collaboration Day, there will be no school for students on Monday, Sept. 16.
Pom Squad Fundraiser
The PBHS Pom Squad is selling T-shirts as well as hoodies to support the team. Orders must be placed by Monday, Sept. 16. For an order form, email Varsity Pom Squad Coach Cindy Robertson at croberts@pb.k12.mo.us.
Choir Auditions
All-District Choir auditions will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Cape Central High School. The bus will leave from the PBHS D-Building parking lot at 5 a.m.
Health Screenings
Health screenings for tenth graders will take place from 7:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at PBHS. Students who require glasses or contact lenses should wear them for the screening. Parents wishing to volunteer to help, please contact the school nurse, Sherry Jameson, by calling 573-785-6471.
Fall Choral Festival
The Southeast District Fall Choral Festival is slated to take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Richard D. Kinder Performance Hall at Cape Central High School. The bus will leave PBHS at 4:30 p.m. Students should plan to go to the choir room immediately after school for a brief warm up, pizza, and to change into concert attire before hitting the road. Parents and other choir supporters are encouraged to attend.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, KFVS12 ran a release about the major PBHS cafeteria renovation.
On Friday, Sept. 6, the DAR published a photo recognizing First Baptist Church for donating supplies to Eugene Field Elementary.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, KAIT8 also ran photos of First Baptist Church's generous donation.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the DAR included PBHS freshman Tori Travers in its occasional "Hometown Celebs" segment.
On Monday, Sept. 9, the DAR ran photos from the Robotic Scramble that Poplar Bluff students participated in at Three Rivers.
