Dear Neighbor,

This weekend is the annual Maifest Chicago celebration in Lincoln Square. Many people from our neighborhoods and all over the city will be traveling to Lincoln Square to attend the festivities!  For information on scheduled show times and events for Maifest please see www.mayfestchicago.com. The streets that will be closed for the fest are Lincoln from Eastwood (by Ricochet's Tavern) north to Leland and along Leland from the alley east of Lincoln west to Western (where the two public parking lots are located and being used for the fest). These closures will begin this evening and will stay in effect until Monday morning.  Please avoid driving in this area, if at all possible.

Have a great weekend, enjoy the celebration and please continue to patronize all of our great Lincoln Square businesses!

Sincerely,
Ameya

Volunteer Service in 47th Ward. Are you looking for a rewarding and enjoyable way to be involved and serve your community? Do you like talking to people and helping them find solutions to problems? If you have a morning or afternoon a week, please volunteer and join us in the 47th Ward Service Office.

Jim M. has been cleaning the gutter for many years on the 3800 Block of Seeley. Thanks to Jim the street is free of debris; which helps rain water flow! Wouldn't you know he is the same good neighbor who snow-blows the sidewalks and gangways in winter?

Big Thanks to Joni C. for taking a carload of towels and bedding that you donated, down to PAWS. Please keep  bringing those linens in; they are much appreciated!

Thanks to neighbor Ann McIntee who gave an informative presentation at our 47th Ward Gardening Network May Workshop. We followed with questions and conversation, and all appreciated her down-to-earth approach to gardening.  If you would like a copy of Ann's most helpful guide to gardening how-to's and when-to's, please let me know.

Please join us for an introduction to Chicago Cooperative on Sunday, June 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sulzer Library Auditorium in Lincoln Square. Chicago Cooperative is a new start-up that is working to build a large-scale, full-service, member-owned food and grocery cooperative on the north side of Chicago. Our group of about 20 community members has been meeting for several months to organize a Steering Committee to turn our vision into action.

We are inviting area residents and community organizations interested in helping to shape the development of Chicago Cooperative by joining volunteer committees or by becoming future Steering Committee or Board Members. We will review the timeline and work that needs to be done to make this a city-wide success. "This is the heart of a very exciting building process. We hope you will join us and be a formative part of our growing organization," Grant Kessler.

Bring in Your Old Linens.  When you clean out your linen closet please think of the abandoned pets who are awaiting their forever homes at local shelters and foster homes. Bring us your old towels, blankets and sheets and we will deliver them.

Sulzer needs your old games.  Thanks to our neighbors who have donated games for the Sulzer's Game Night!  If you have games that your family no longer uses, please bring them to the 47th Ward Office or to Sulzer Library. Their ever-popular "Game Night" could use a few more board games like Sorry, Chess, Life, Uno, Jenga, Rummy Cube, etc.

Peoples Gas and their Subcontractor are replacing the gas mains on the 2500 block of Gunnison.  The main is in, and now they will begin doing the individual service connections to each residence.  Please respond promptly to have the service installed so that restoration is not delayed.

Metra Traffic Closures and Detours Around Ravenswood Avenue

  • Leland detours and bridge closure will be up until June 28, 2013.
  • Ravenswood from Lawrence to Leland will have parking restrictions until June 28.  There is also an ongoing FULL CLOSURE for this duration on the west side of Ravenswood.  Sidewalks will remain open.
  • Ravenswood from Berteau to Grace will have intermittent closures as work continues there.
  • Ravenswood from Montrose to Berteau will have intermittent closures while wall panels are installed.
  • Eastbound Irving Park lane restriction for abutment installation May 9 through June 10.
  • Lawrence Ave Full Closure at Ravenswood June 18 - June 20 & June 25

Parking restrictions and detours may be opened, when possible, and re-closed once work is ready to resume.   Walsh Construction is continuing to work with our office to minimize closures and parking restrictions, and reduce their construction footprint as much as possible while getting their work done.
