Friday, December 27th

9:00 a.m.: I'll talk with Kelly Shackelford, President of the Liberty Institute, about a series of hostile actions against Christians as noted in the stories below. He was just featured as a guest by Glenn Beck last night.

Kelly Shackelford, who appeared on Glenn Beck's TV show last night,
joins me for an hour on WBAP Radio to discuss attacks on Christian liberty.

VETERANS AFFAIRS BANS CHRISTMAS CARDS TO TROOPS OVER RELIGIOUS CONTENT

According to the Liberty Institute, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is refusing to allow school children to give Christmas cards to veterans if those cards say "Merry Christmas" or "God bless you." Religious liberty lawyers have sent the VA a letter demanding they immediately lift the ban.

Obama's Veterans' Administration objected to the Christian Christmas cards written by students.

Susan Chapman is a teacher at Grace Academy of North Texas and, at a parent's suggestion, organized a project for students to take cards to wounded military veterans to thank them and cheer them up during the holidays. She attempted to deliver those cards to a VA hospital in Dallas on Dec. 22. However, VA staff reportedly stopped her when she entered the facility, telling her that gifts or messages with religious content were not permitted by VA policy.

"It is so sad that the VA is sending a message to our children that after all the veterans have done to fight for freedom across the world, the children have no freedom to say Merry Christmas to these honorable men and women," Chapman said.

LIBERAL COMMERCIAL TALK RADIO DISAPPEARS IN NYC, L.A. & SAN FRAN

Liberal talker Ed Schultz

2014 will mark the beginning of a massive change for liberal talk radio across the country. In New York, WWRL 1600 AM will flip to Spanish-language music and talk, throwing Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, and Alan Colmes off the air.

In Los Angeles, KTLK 1150 will be dumping Stephanie Miller, Rhodes, Bill Press and David Cruz off the air in favor of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. In San Francisco, KNEW 960 will leave Miller, Hartmann, and Mike Malloy without a radio home in the market.

Thanks to radio consolidation and the secondary status of leftist talk in major markets across the country, the final death knell for liberal talkers could be tolling.

Las Vegas cab driver Gerardo Gamboa thought someone left a bag of chocolates in the back seat last Monday. But this stash turned out to be cold hard cash.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Gamboa was making a pickup Monday at the Bellagio when a hotel doorman noticed the brown paper bag and handed it to him.

At a red light, the Checker Cab driver's curiosity got the best of him. To his surprise, he found six bundles of $100 bills totaling $300,000.

9:00 a.m.: I'll talk to a WALL STREET ADVISOR WHO RECOMMENDS GUNS, AMMO FOR PROTECTION IN COLLAPSE.

A top financial advisor, worried that Obamacare, the NSA spying scandal and spiraling national debt is increasing the chances for a fiscal and social disaster, is recommending that Americans prepare a "bug-out bag" that includes food, a gun and ammo to help them stay alive.

David John Marotta, a Wall Street expert and financial advisor and Forbes contributor, said in a note to investors, "Firearms are the last item on the list, but they are on the list. There are some terrible people in this world. And you are safer when your trusted neighbors have firearms."

His memo is part of a series addressing the potential for a "financial apocalypse." His view, however, is that the problems plaguing the country won't result in armageddon. "There is the possibility of a precipitous decline, although a long and drawn out malaise is much more likely," said the Charlottesville, Va.-based president of Marotta Wealth Management.

10:00 a.m. I'll talk with Kelly Lewman, a single mother from Oklahoma, who was set to sell an antique Raggedy Ann doll to catch up past due bills, especially her utility and car payments. People intervened and made $700 of donations to cover gas, electric and water which were about to be shut-off

WOMAN SURPRISED BY KINDNESS TRYING TO SELL RAGGEDY ANN DOLL

A local mother is going through some hard times and facing cutoff notices from utility companies.

The special needs teacher tried selling an antique doll on Facebook, hoping to catch up on her bills.

Single mother Kelly Lewman joins me on WBAP Radio here in Dallas about the generosity of friends, family and strangers as she was set to sell an antique Raggedy Ann doll to pay bills.

FOX23 Anchor Shae Rozzi showed us the response, and it was something she never saw coming.

This antique doll is known to most of us as Raggedy Ann, but to Kelly Cathcart Lewman of Sapulpa, she's now known as her saving grace.

FOX23 spoke to Lewman, "You've had a difficult time."

Lewman replies, "Yes, very much, just trying to make ends meet, my car is behind. I don't know when, I might lose the car. I just struggle to try to keep everything going."

8:00 p.m.: Christian filmmaker Geoff Botkin, founder of the Western Conservatory of the Arts & Sciences, discusses BIBLICAL FILMS' HOLLYWOOD COMEBACK with me for the hour.

Christian filmmaker Geoff Botkin joins me on WBAP Radio
to discuss the comeback of Biblical films in Hollywood.

The saint-like image of a hooded woman looms out from the movie poster, her arms outstretched as a divine light bursts from the sky. A message written above is simple and unambiguous: "You Will Believe."

So goes the promotional campaign for the forthcoming Hollywood blockbuster Mary Mother of Christ. "It is a part of Mary, Joseph and Jesus's life that has not been shown on the big screen before," reads a synopsis. "Under the reign of terror of Herod the Great and, against all odds, they survive as young parents in one of the most treacherous times in history." It promises "faith-based high action drama" − and there is no room in the audience for doubting Thomases.

Mary Mother of Christ, whose title character will be played by Odeya Rush, a 16-year-old Israeli-born actress, is one of a series of unashamedly Christian biblical epics due to appear next year, marking an unprecedented overture by Hollywood to America's evangelical heartland.

In March audiences will be treated to Noah, a $150 million special effects-laden extravaganza, in which Russell Crowe will build an ark and rescue mankind from the Great Flood. Harry Potter actress Emma Watson will play his adopted daughter, and Sir Anthony Hopkins is portraying Methuselah. The ark was built on Long Island, New York.

CNN POLL: GOP HAS EDGE IN EARLY MIDTERM INDICATOR

Democrats have lost their advantage and Republicans now have a slight edge in the battle for control of Congress, according to a new national poll.

NEW OBAMACARE FEES COMING IN 2014

Here comes the ObamaCare tax bill.

The cost of President Obama's massive health-care law will hit Americans in 2014 as new taxes pile up on their insurance premiums and on their income-tax bills.

Most insurers aren't advertising the ObamaCare taxes that are added on to premiums, opting instead to discretely pass them on to customers while quietly lobbying lawmakers for a break.

But one insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, laid bare the taxes on its bills with a separate line item for "Affordable Care Act Fees and Taxes."

The new taxes on one customer's bill added up to $23.14 a month, or $277.68 annually, according to Kaiser Health News. It boosted the monthly premium from $322.26 to $345.40 for that individual.

MANY COUNTIES HAVE ONLY PRICEY OBAMACARE PLANS

More than half of the counties in 34 states using the federal health insurance exchange lack even a bronze plan that's affordable - by the government's own definition - for 40-year-old couples who make just a little too much for financial assistance, a USA TODAY analysis shows.

Many of these counties are in rural, less populous areas that already had limited choice and pricey plans, but many others are heavily populated, such as Bergen County, N.J., and Philadelphia and Milwaukee counties.

More than a third don't offer an affordable plan in the four tiers of coverage known as bronze, silver, gold or platinum for people buying individual plans who are 50 or older and ineligible for subsidies.
