- The Cajun RVera, located at the Acadiana Fairgrounds, had its official ribbon cutting on March 28, and is now accepting reservations for RV sites. The RV resort has a swim up bar, kiddie pool play area, lazy river, clubhouse, arcade and much more. The resort's grand opening will be this weekend at the Cajun Hot Sauce Festival.

- The Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce held a grand opening on March 27 to celebrate the chamber's acquisition of its new office space at 1440 Main Street. The building was once the site of the Jeanerette Lumber and Shingle company before housing the Cameron Simmons law office for approximately 20 years. The office building includes three offices downstairs and two upstairs, as well as a lot of historical significance to the community of Jeanerette.

We sponsored the printing of the Cajun Classique poster displayed at our center. The classic wooden boats will cruise from St. Martinville to New Iberia on Wednesday and participants will tour our area Thursday. Click here to see the itinerary (Iberia p. 5).

 - The Jeanerette Museum is now open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
|
- Join Awesome Adventures/Unique Destinations on Wednesday, May 28 for a day of touring of two of New Orleans Plantation Country's beautiful plantations and gardens. Cost of $125 includes escorted motorcoach trip with Lafayette and New Iberia departures (Jeanerette and Franklin pickups possible), guided tours of Houmas House Plantation and Gardens and Laura Plantation, and lunch at Café Burnside at Houmas House.

 - We have two upcoming media tours:
- April 14-15, Monsieur Bob Jenkins, a freelance travel writer who works for various publications including Tampa Bay Times, Dallas Morning News, Chicago Tribune, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Miami Herald and San Francisco Chronicle. He also writes for a website called Watchboom.com and includes all his pieces on his own website and in his e-books.
- April 16-17, Miles Media tour to shoot the Louisiana Culinary Trails (Bayou Bounty) video. The project is intended to tell the rich story of Louisiana's culinary culture to potential visitors. The videos will be housed on YouTube and LouisianaTravel.com and will be shared via the Louisiana Travel and Louisiana Culinary Trails social media channels. Segments of the final videos may also be featured in the Louisiana Office of Tourism's traditional media campaign.

- The National Geographic US Goalf Coast Geotourism website is live after a year of work, and with contributions from almost 900 people from throughout the region. It features over 1,600 sites, attractions and businesses highlighting the places most respected and recommended by locals. The app is available to download and the print map is inked. In addition, a permanent Geotourism Stewardship Council, representing us and other stakeholders from the four states (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi) has been established, has a strategy for its future, and is in the process of forming a non-profit to continue and expand on the goals of the program.
