  • The National Geographic US Goalf Coast Geotourism website is live after a year of work, and with contributions from almost 900 people from throughout the region. It features over 1,600 sites, attractions and businesses highlighting the places most respected and recommended by locals. The app is available to download and the print map is inked. In addition, a permanent Geotourism Stewardship Council, representing us and other stakeholders from the four states (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi) has been established, has a strategy for its future, and is in the process of forming a non-profit to continue and expand on the goals of the program.

  • IPAL is sponsoring three benefit performances of "Tuesdays with Morrie" with Vincent Barras and Travis Fontenot. The show will run Friday April 4 and Saturday April 5 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday April 6 at 3 p.m. This two-man show tells the touching and poignant real-life story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor who has contracted Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Tickets for the performances are $10 and will only be available at the door of the Essanee Theater located at 126 Iberia St. in New Iberia. All proceeds from the tickets will be divided among the ALS Society, the Daily Iberian's "Help the Helpers" campaign which benefits ten local non-profit organizations, and area schools with theater programs.
