Cushions Still Available

Thanks to the generosity of MEDIchair (Edmonton location), CPA (Alberta) received a donation of nearly 100 cushions!  Special thanks as well to FI Canada for their assistance with storage of these cushions.

All cushions are new or previously trialed and there are a variety of brands and sizes available.CPA (Alberta) neither endorses nor guarantees any of these products and recommends that, in order to prevent any complications that may result from the use of any of these cushions, you contact your medial service provider or seating specialist. Steve Saoberg from MEDIchair, Edmonton location (780-437-3300) may be able to provide assistance with any technical questions.

CPA (Alberta) members can 'purchase' one cushion at a cost of $75/cushion to cover shipping and handling.Brand-new, these cushions range in price from $250-$600. For more information on how to obtain a cushion, contact your local CPA (Alberta) Client Services Coordinator.

Mammogram Testing
Mammograms are recommended every year after the age of 40 and every 2 years after the age of 50. It is sometimes difficult however for women with disabilities who use wheelchairs to access this equipment. Mobile units in remote sites are not low enough to be able to do the mammogram while sitting in a wheelchair, therefore individuals need to go to Edmonton or another fixed site for a mammogram. Screen Test is part of an Alberta program for early detection of breast cancer.  Mammograms for individuals in wheelchairs can be done at the Kingsway Garden Mall site in Edmonton if you can sit up and if someone can lift your arms for you. A doctors referral is not required. When booking your appointment, let the booking clerk know you are in a wheelchair so that they can book two technicians for the test. You will need to provide your Alberta Health Care number and the date and location of your last mammogram if it was done in the past 5 years.  You will also be required to fill in a form which will take about 10 minutes prior to the test and the test itself will take 10-15 minutes.

Alberta Health Services Breast Cancer Screening Program (Screen Test): 311 Kingsway Garden Mall, 109 Street and Kingsway Garden Avenue, 780-643-4678. Hours of operation: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.
