We had an excellent start to our Regional meetings last week in Rushville and Evansville; we are looking forward to the final drive as we finish with Shipshewana, Monroe, and Plymouth next week. The timing of the Dollars and Sense presentations is amazing, it doesn't matter if you have 25 head or 2500 head, it is applicable to you! Attendance has been great and it appears the rooms are going to be full next week - we really appreciate your taking advantage of the opportunity provided. Let me know if you want to attend; we can still get you in - you will not be disappointed!
Thanks to those of you who took the time out of your busy schedule to attend our annual meeting. We have appreciated Joe Hibschman and Sarah Wagler's years of dedication and service to our board and industry, it's bittersweet but we also know they are still within our reach...thanks to both of you! We are pleased and look forward to working with our new board members, Fred Kunkel representing the North region and Greg Peters representing the South region - welcome gentlemen! We were able to recognize two very worthy recipients for our Producer and Young Producer of the Year awards. Congratulations to David Ring and Orville Haney! Special thanks to Indiana Soybean Alliance for hosting our meeting. We are very pleased that Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition has moved up to Gold level sponsorship! We appreciate our many terrific sponsors and urge you to consider their products and services when you choose who you call on to fulfill your farm's needs.
I look forward to seeing many of you next week; never hesitate to contact me for any dairy need: dougleman@indianadairy.org or call me at 317-695-8228. Be careful and God bless!

David Ring is 2016 IDP Outstanding Dairy Producer of the Year
| IDP President Steve Obert presents the 2016 Outstanding Producer award to David Ring of Dubois County
|
It is always gratifying to recognize a dairy farmer who has shown leadership and community involvement even while being a dairy farmer. Those were qualities recognized in Dubois County Dairy Farmer David Ring. David, along with his son Brent, have a dairy farm, as well as a turkey and grain operation. In addition, David taught high school ag for 16 years. You can watch David speak a little about balancing the farm and his teaching career during his acceptance talk here. And you can read more about our 2016 Outstanding Dairy Producer of the Year here.

Orville Haney is 2016 Outstanding Young Dairy Producer
| Orville Haney (right) with son Keith and daughter Claire is recognized by Steve Obert, IDP President. (Not pictured is youngest son, Levi).

IDP was pleased to recognize Orville Haney as the 2016 Outstanding Young Dairy Producer of the Year. Orville is a 6th generation farmer in Kosciusko County. He has had more experience in his 30+ years than many folks have in a lifetime. Even before leaving for college, Orville worked at a machine shop, assisted at a local funeral home and loved being a baseball umpire, in addition to helping on the family farm. After he graduated from Purdue in 2002, Orville was a farm manager for Maple Leaf, managing 4 barns, 15000 laying hens and 5 employees. From there, he worked at the Indiana State Board of Animal Health as a milk inspector. Finally, he settled full time at the family dairy farm, where Orville, his father Kevin and his brother Jeremiah started an LLC. Currently, they milk 140 cows, 600 total head with their feedlot and young stock. They farm 850 acres with 1 full time and 5 part time employees. They sell milk, beef, corn, hay, and breeding stock. Orville's children are the 7th generation on the family farm. Orville has won a number of awards as an athlete and through Farm Bureau, including being a Farm Bureau state achievement award winner. He currently serves on the Indiana Dairy Development Board, Fulton County DHIA, Fulton County Farm Service Agency and Kosciusko Farm Bureau board of directors. Congratulations, Orville!

State of Indiana's Dairy Industry
Dr. Mike Schutz delivered an update on the "State of Indiana's Dairy Industry" during the IDP Annual Meeting on Feb. 3. Some very interesting trends were displayed, and we thought you might be interested in seeing the incredible production increases that Indiana has realized since 1997, even as the number of dairy farms has declined. Read more about Dr. Schutz' presentation on Hoosier Ag Today here.

IDP thanks Hibschman and Wagler
IDP certainly wants to recognize the significant time commitments that outgoing board members, Joe Hibschman and Sarah Wagler, have given to the IDP Board of Directors. Both have served IDP for

6 years, and their leadership and insight have been invaluable. Sarah most recently served as IDP's vice president. IDP has had the opportunity to do strategic planning for the past year, and this has required additional meeting attendance and input from our board of directors. We will be continuing to seek their advice, but we certainly appreciate their fulfilling two terms and wish them well in their time ahead.Thank you, Sarah and Joe! We also look forward to learning more from our two newly seated board members, Fred Kunkel and Greg Peters. We will have more about them in an upcoming newsletter. Following the IDP Annual Meeting on February 3, Steve Obert was re-elected to another one year term as IDP President. Brian Huber was elected as Vice President, and Julie Bommer was elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer.
