Greetings!
What a difference a year makes! As the silage harvest winds down, it seems the yields have been very good and enough feed has been put away to easily get you thru until next season - one less worry on your mind.
I am planning on being at the World Dairy Expo next week and one of the meetings I will be attending is the National Dairy Leaders Coalition, a joint venture between state organizations such as IDP. If you have a specific issue that you feel needs to be brought up to this group, please give me a call and let's talk about it. Together we can make a difference! I will look forward to seeing some of you at the Expo.
We appreciate each of our sponsors so much, knowing that without them, we would not be able to do what we do. It is always an encouragement when we get contacted by a sponsor and they say, "We appreciate what your organization is doing for the dairy industry, we would like to raise our level of support!" A special thanks to National Farmers as they are the latest to do just that - we welcome them as they move up to the Silver level. As always, we encourage you to do business with IDP sponsors, they have everything you need!
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any dairy need, comment, or concern; call me at 317-695-8228 or email dougleman@indianadairy.org. As you continue your harvest, be safe and God bless!

New Healthcare Rules Impact Businesses Including Dairy Farmers
The Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, takes effect on October 1. There are parts of this legislation that affect anyone who has sales (like milk revenue) of $500,000 annually and prepares a W2 for at least 1 person. Employers who meet that criteria are required to inform all current employees of their health care status by October 1st. This is not difficult to do, but it does require action. Click here for additional information on this requirement. You may have heard that employers of 50 or more were given a 1-year reprieve before the full ACA kicks in, but that does not exempt employers from meeting this October 1, 2013 mandate to inform their employees of their healthcare status. In addition, any new hires after Oct. 1 need to be given this information within 14 days of the hiring date. For additional ACA information, Kyle Cline from Indiana Farm Bureau has put a nice sheet together for employees, "What the Affordable Care Act Means for Small Businesses." Click here to read Kyle's summary. It was recently announced that the Healthy Indiana Plan has been granted a 1 year extension by the federal government. The Healthy Indiana Plan is a mix of state and federal dollars, and covers some Hoosiers who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to buy insurance on the open market. To view options on the US government Marketplace for insurance options, click here. And finally, the US government has launched a new one-stop website to assist employers with health care changes here. Please contact your accountant and/or legal adviser for information about specific compliance issues for your personal operation. We are providing these resources as general guidance only.

World Dairy Expo October 1-5
Yes, there's always a ton to do on the farm, but maybe you should take a little break and head up to Madison, Wisconsin for World Dairy Expo next week. You might discover a new way to fix an old problem, or see some gorgeous cows, or both. There's a lot of things to learn, and it can be very helpful to get off the farm, even for a short time. Click the logo, or visit the official WDE website here for more info.

ZFS Feed Update
 | Call 866-888-7082 |
CANOLA The canola market is kind of in a lull as of late. Western values have begun to back off slightly. End users have stepped up to buy a little protein, but it appears to be 70 percent of the market or less. Look for canola meal values to stay competitive to soybean meal. If soybean meal basis becomes more expensive, canola will follow and become more expensive as well. COTTONSEED Cottonseed remains strong in the Indiana market, with prices still around $390. Do not expect new crop and barge arrival cottonseed to be at the usual big discount to old crop due to 23-25% smaller cotton acreage and wet conditions in the southeastern United States and dry conditions in Texas. Harvest is later this year, yet two-three weeks away ginners say. DDGS The prices of DDGS and wet cake have remained strong and at a premium in comparison to other feed ingredients this month. The ethanol plants are waiting for new crop corn to come in so they can take advantage of lower corn basis. The real question will be is if the grain farmers are going to sell the corn or keep it in their bins. Forward contracts are around $200 on farm. GLUTEN FEED Grind rates for corn continue to be slow, creating short supply of corn gluten feed from most plants until new crop corn arrives. Nearby prices have surged as old crop corn basis remains strong and supplies are tight. Additionally, new crop values have strengthened since August. Wet gluten remains plentiful in offers until new crop corn comes into production. However, the value of dry gluten in the feed ration still remains high versus corn when comparing five-year averages. SOY HULLS Soy hulls look to be a good buy as harvest arrives and soybean processing increases. Look for less demand as fiber is good in most areas. BEET PULP Beet pulp, both wet and pellets, are available for contract. Processing began in Michigan and tonnage appears to be less per acre this year. However the pellets cost is lower than last year. CITRUS PULP PELLETS Citrus pulp pellets are still being offered for January- May-Nov 2014 shipment times. Pulp volume continues to shrink whereas prices to the farms hold steady to higher than most years.

Partners in Success Luncheon Oct. 25
Our annual IDP Partners in Success Luncheon is an opportunity for our sponsors, partners and prospective sponsors to get an update on the activities of Indiana Dairy Producers as well as an opportunity to fellowship with many of our tremendous current supporters.
This year, the event will be held at a different location: The Indiana State Fairgrounds Farm Bureau Building from 11 AM - 2 PM.
We are excited to announce our speaker, Chris McGrath. Chris is spokesperson from the Green Express and can share his knowledge of this project and the opportunities that could be available to the dairy industry in the very near future. The Green Express is a dedicated (non-stop) refrigerated rail line that will run to and from Port Manatee Bay near Tampa, Florida, and Kingbury, Indiana in LaPorte County.
In addition, there will be an opportunity to visit the new Glass Barn at the Indiana State Fairgrounds! This inter-active project of the Indiana Soybean Alliance was an enormous hit at the State Fair, and we know that anyone who didn't see it there will look forward to another chance to do so.
If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Doug Leman at 317-695-8228.
