Stunning View of Soon-To-Be Broadway Palace

Increased construction activity in the district has brought new photo ops to the area. This gorgeous shot of the G.H. Palmer Broadway Palace construction site was taken by architectural photographer Hunter Kerhart, who has photographed various buildings in the district. Broadway Palace is expected to open in 2016 and will add over 600 residential units to the district. See the newest project renderings here.

Planning for the Fashion District - Downtown Community Plan Update

On June 10th, the LA Fashion District Board and property owners heard a presentation by Bryan Eck and Nick Maricich of the Department of City Planning. The presentation, Planning for the Fashion District, was an update on the Downtown Community Plan, which includes the Fashion District. The Downtown Community Plan is one of the most important initiatives for downtown and especially the Fashion District.  Businesses are locating in downtown areas where there are residents, restaurants, shops, and nightlife. The Fashion District is beginning to see development and interest on the west side of the District's boundaries, but the rest of the District's is hindered by outdated industrial zoning.

The updated Downtown Community Plan will include policy updates, new zoning typologies (in partnership with re:Code LA), transit area focus, public benefit strategies, and downtown planning goals.

Planners clearly understand the need to develop new zoning and land use regulations for the Fashion District. They recognize that the Fashion District is unique and will be treated as such with a series of new zones to reflect the changes that are happening in the District.

The update of the Downtown Community Plan is in conjunction with re:Code LA, an effort to create a new zoning code for downtown. The new codes will include entitlement procedures and new zone typologies related to the properties' use and form. A first draft of the Community Plan will be ready for presentation in 2016.

We want to thank Bryan Eck and Nick Maricich of the Department of City Planning for their thoughtful presentation.

Reminder: Illegal Sidewalk Vending Hearings

The City of Los Angeles is conducting a series of community hearings to discuss the legalization of sidewalk vending, as proposed by the City Council Economic Development Committee (Price-Huizar; C.F. 13-1493). Illegal vending is a topic of much discussion, especially in the Fashion District where the City has failed to regulate the hundreds of illegal vendors. The Fashion District BID has been very involved in the discussions, and we ask that you consider attending the next meeting to voice your concerns. The Downtown meeting will be held at City Hall, John Ferraro Council Chambers, 200 Spring St. next Thursday, June 18, 6-8 p.m.

Help Improve LADOT Dash Services
Every three to five years, LADOT Transit performs a comprehensive line-by-line analysis (Transit Service Analysis) of its services to assess their performance, as well as to identify unmet transportation needs in the city. LADOT Transit has begun a new Transit Service Analysis, called "Moving Forward...Together."  A key factor in the analysis is input from riders and major stakeholders who represent targeted populations throughout the City of Los Angeles. You can help improve LADOT services in the Fashion District.
