Illegal Street Vending Hearings
| Illegal vendors in the Fashion District |
The City of Los Angeles is conducting a series of community hearings to discuss the legalization of sidewalk vending, as proposed by the City Council Economic Development Committee. (Price-Huizar; C.F. 13-1493) Illegal vending is a topic of much discussion, especially in the Fashion District where the City has failed to regulate the hundreds of illegal vendors that conduct business on our streets. The Fashion District BID has been very involved in the discussions, and we ask that you consider attending one of these meetings to voice your concerns. The Downtown meeting will be held at City Hall, John Ferraro Council Chambers, 200 Spring St. on Thursday, June 18, 6-8 p.m.
A list of additional meetings can be found here. Questions may be submitted to Sidewalk.Vending@lacity.org.
Thousands Shop Flower District for Mother's Day + Local News Coverage
Thousands of Angelenos shopped the Fashion District over Mother's Day weekend to take advantage of the steeply discounted prices in the Flower District. Mother's Day is the busiest day of the year for flower vendors, and this past weekend proved to be even busier than usual, as both Mother's Day and Día de las Madres fell on the same date. The Fashion District BID worked around the clock to prepare for the big holiday. Safe and Clean Team crews had an increased presence in the area to assist with traffic flow and cleanliness. Increased sales and pedestrians increases litter and dumping. The BID Clean Team did a fantastic job removing illegal dumping from sidewalks so pedestrians could shop comfortably throughout the district.
PR & Marketing Manager, Ariana Gomez, worked with California Flower Mall property owner Mark Chatoff to secure media coverage for the district. Fox 11, CBS 2, KCAL 9, NBC 4, Telemundo 52, Univision 54, and Racked LA helped us promote the district to millions of shoppers.
2nd Quarter 2015 Fashion District Television Coverage
In addition to Mother's Day coverage, the Fashion District BID recently secured media coverage on Telemundo and Univsion. The BID worked with Univision for a special prom segment featuring two underprivileged students from Belmont High School. The BID provided prom outfits for both, and the segment was filmed in the Fashion District. Click on the video above to watch the segment or watch it here.
Mireya of Mireya's Flowers in the California Flower Mall will be featured on Telemundo as part of a special segment on women entrepreneurs. The airing date for the segment is still pending.
Both of these segments came as a direct result of the relationships the BID maintains with local news media.
