LAPD Captain Rodriguez, Newton Division, Speaks at Operations Committee Meeting

The LA Fashion District Operations Committee met this week. It heard presentations from LAPD Captain Rodriguez and Senior Lead Officer Steve Carrillo, Newton Division, and their team, including narcotics officers and the neighborhood prosecutor. The discussion focused on medical marijuana dispensaries and the increase in graffiti. The committee also heard a presentation by TRaCE. "TRaCE is a multi-agency task force working to combat the illegal underground economy and protect public resources." The task force focuses on tax evasion, piracy, counterfeiting, and human trafficking.
Free Graffiti Removal Services for Property Owners
Another job well done by the Fashion District Clean Team! The property owner at 1616 S Los Angeles St. called our Field Office to report graffiti on his property and Field Supervisor Elmer Pacheco promptly removed it. The district has seen an increase in tagging of up to 70-90 tags per day. The BID provides graffiti removal services to all properties in the district free of charge. February 2015 Trash Tonnage Report
The Fashion District BID has an extensive cleaning program which includes daily trash pickup and litter removal. On average the BID picks up between 5 and 6 tons of trash per day. During the month of February, the Clean Team collected an average 6.01 tons of trash per day. Learn more about the BID Clean and Safe programs here.
County Health Department & LADOT at BID Consortium Last week we hosted the monthly BID Consortium meeting at the Ace Hotel, which included presentations by LADOT and the County Health Department. Among issues discussed was sidewalk vending. We learned the County Health Department has only 11 people to do inspections for the entire county.
BID Safe Team Project Manager to Join LAPD BID Safe Team Manager Manuel Madueno will be leaving the Fashion District BID at the end of March to join the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Academy. Madueno has been with the Fashion District for three years. Best of luck Manuel!
