CicLAvia - Heart of LA - Sunday, October 5
CicLAvia will return to the Heart of LA on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. when streets on the route will close to vehicle traffic and open for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike. There are activities along the route and many shop owners and restaurants will be open. The route will feature a pedestrian zone in the Broadway Theater District, a kids zone at the East LA Civic Center and will cross paths with the Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture, which is being held in Grand Park. The Theatre District Hub, on Broadway between 8th and 9th Streets, will feature an REI climbing wall and photo booth, and Library Store on Wheels. Nearby, the Bradbury building will open its doors to the public, and the Tower and Los Angeles Theatres will host open houses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free bike valet will be offered at Grand Central Market, and the Historic Core Farmer's Market on 5th Street between Spring and Broadway will offer food, face painting, and a live band. Businesses are encouraged to stay open on the day of the event, as thousands of potential customers will be passing by their storefronts throughout the day. Inspired by ciclovía, the weekly street closure event in Bogotá, Colombia, established nearly 40 years ago, CicLAvia consists of the temporary opening of Los Angeles streets to all Angelenos. Free to the public, it interconnects diverse portions of the city, creating a web of temporary public space, free of car traffic.
LA Fashion Market Spring 2015, Oct. 12-15
LA Fashion Market Week, Southern California's premier tradeshow for contemporary apparel, footwear, and accessories, returns to the Fashion District October 12-15. The market is hosted five times a year in the district's designer showrooms. The Fashion District BID maintains the market's Lines Directory, which is updated prior to each market week. In addition to the permanent showrooms, there will be six tradeshows: SELECT Premium & Contemporary Brands, TRANSIT Footwear & Accessories, LA Men's Market, COEUR Accessories, Gifts, Home and Lifestyle Tradeshow, D&A (Designers and Agents), and the LA Kids Market. Designers will be debuting their Spring 2015 collections.
Nature Republic Opens in Santee Alley
Nature Republic, a Korean cosmetics and skincare line, opened its first West Coast location in the Santee Alley on Sunday, September 28, 2014. The store is strictly retail-only and offers everything from body lotion to snail mucus inspired face moisturizer. This is only the fourth Nature Republic store to open in the U.S. The three other stores are located in Hawaii, New Jersey, and New York.
