Chrysalis Story to Air on Santa Monica CityTV
The BID works with Chrysalis to provide cleaning services to the district. At the same time the jobs help people get back on their feet. See how these jobs make a positive difference in people's lives on NonProfit Profiles on Santa Monica CityTV. The show will air in about a month and we'll let everyone know when to expect it. Tracy Salter, in the photo wearing the Fashion District yellow uniform, stole the show.

Plan Proposed to Clean Up Skid Row
Pointing to urgent health and safety issues that plague Skid Row, a Los Angeles city budget official has proposed a $3.7 million clean-up effort that would expand public toilet and shower access for the homeless, and increase storage capacity for their belongings. Chief Administrative Officer Miguel Santana wrote a 10-page report to City Council, which must approve the proposal, requesting increased cleanings and inspections, additional trash receptacles, and the establishment of short and long-term storage for the homeless, including places to park their shopping carts while they receive services. Click Here to read the story in LA Downtown News.

Broadway Construction Update

Work will shift to the west side of Broadway, and associated cross-streets,  between

4/17-4/19. One lane will be maintained in each direction for both these phases, and affected bus zones will shift to the far side of the intersection as necessary.

Shot-blasting and cleaning will occur at night so as to minimize pedestrian hazards, but concrete slurry work must occur during the day due to noisy machinery. Additionally, City striping crews will be finishing up nightly to mark the reconfigured lanes and install anchors below the street surface which will house the flexible posts which will demarcate the pedestrian versus vehicular areas.

COMING UP:

In coming weeks, the paving treatment for new pedestrian areas, and adjacent flexible posts, will be installed starting 4/28 after Fiesta Broadway; high visibility white crosswalks lines will be installed at night during April/May/June; planters with vegetation will line the corridor in July/August; and parking meters, tables, chairs and umbrellas will be delivered and installed in mid August.
