February Brings Great Media Exposure for the District
The LA Fashion District BID has been working overtime to keep the district in the news this month. Local TV crews reported from the LA Flower District early Valentine's Day morning, while local blogs like Racked LA helped us spread news of flower vendor's extended holiday hours. We've also continued working with Univision for the filming of their evening news fashion segment "A la moda con Jomari" on Primer Impacto. Univision has featured Santee Alley twice this month. The Santee Alley has had a regular presence in the segment all year. Arizona's Channel 3 was also in the Fashion District filming two segments on bargain shopping, which aired on February 19 and 20. Upcoming features include a Mother's Day story on the LA Flower District for AAA's magazine Westways and a story on entrepreneurship and small business on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's website FreeEnterprise.com. In addition to news coverage, we've also been working with the entertainment industry to film a pilot for an upcoming reality show about two boutique owners traveling in a "fashion truck" giving makeovers. The pilot was filmed mainly in Santee Alley and shows the show's stars as they source women's fashions in the district.

Community Plan Outreach Ongoing
The Planning Department was thrilled with the amount of participation and the tremendous amount of feedback received at recent meetings about the future vision of Downtown Los Angeles. Project Manager Bryan Eck and his team have put together a questionnaire for you to fill in and return via email or mail. Forward it and encourage other stakeholders to complete it and return it as well. You can also offer comments directly in an email to Bryan at bryan.eck@lacity.org.
Map Your Thoughts, Win a Prize
Continue to share your thoughts about your neighborhood. Through the month of February, everyone who posts an original neighborhood photo with a comment to MapIt will be entered into a random drawing to win a re:codeLA prize! Zoning is part of the story behind many of our everyday experiences: that vast, unshaded parking lot you had to cross from the sidewalk to the store entrance, the convenient bicycle parking space waiting for you, or that new building with solar panels down the street. MapIt creates a first-hand look at where zoning is and isn't working in neighborhoods across the City. Share a photo and tell us what you like or don't like about where you live, work or visit. Click Here for more information.
Continued from Above... 2014 Economic Forecast
There was economic growth in the 2nd half of 2013 of around 3.5%, and interest rates remain low. California's payroll grew by approximately 1.5%, mostly driven by the tech sector. He expects that consumers will continue to spend money, that the housing market will recover by year's end, and the commercial market will slowly recover as well.
Locally, housing prices continue to rise, and there is less than a 4 month supply of housing on the current market. Although construction of single family homes is lagging, the multifamily sector remains hot. Thornberg pointed to CEQA as a contributing factor in California's chronic housing affordability and supply crisis and emphasized the need for CEQA reform at the state level.
