LA Flower District Extends Hours for Valentine's Day - California Flower Mall Open 24 Hours

Vendors in the LA Flower District will be extending their hours today and tomorrow to accommodate Valentine's Day shoppers. The California Flower Mall will be open to the public 24 hours starting today until the last customer leaves tomorrow. Click Here for holiday hours and more information. 

 

The BID has been working with local media to remind shoppers that the Flower District is the best place to buy flowers for the holiday. The Flower District has already been featured on local media this week, and we expect more news coverage on Valentine's Day morning.

Bulky Item Pick-Up 

Bulky items comprise a significant amount of illegally dumped trash. CALL THE BID at 213-741-2661 and we will arrange to pick up the copy machine, computer, or sofa that you want to dump in the gutter or alley.

  

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Visits the Fashion District 

The LA Fashion District will be featured on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's website FreeEnterprise.com. A reporter from the site visited the Fashion District last week to learn about the district and interview Executive Director Kent Smith. The story will focus on the small businesses in the district and the entrepreneurial spirit of the area.
 

Wilshire Grand Street Closures - February 15-16 - for "the Grand Pour"

The Wilshire Grand Center, currently under construction at 900 Wilshire Blvd., will be closing streets in downtown Los Angeles in the area around Figueroa Street, Wilshire Boulevard, Francisco Street and 7th Street from 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.

 

As part of the construction of this 73-story project, roughly 21,200 cubic yards of concrete needs to be poured into the site's foundation. This event dubbed "the Grand Pour" marks a key milestone

Sidewalk Repair Plan 

Councilman Joe Buscaino, Chairman of the Public Works and Gang Reduction Committee - advanced a $10 million sidewalk repair plan, during a special committee on February 6th. The proposal now moves to the Budget & Finance Committee for consideration and then to the full City Council. Click Here for the press release.

Site locations include private penthouses, empty floors, historical landmarks, and bank and hotel lobbies in Downtown Los Angeles. Five of the 10 sites are in the LA Fashion District.

Many downtown districts will be highlighted including the Historic District, Fashion District, and Broadway District. The Cooper Design Space at 860 S Los Angeles St. is hosting the Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre. Click Here for event information and a map
