"I'm spiritual, not religious." How many times have we
heard that, usually from people who consider their unchurched status a mark of honor. When I heard this as a parish pastor, I became frustrated, especially when folks waxed lyrical about a spiritual experience engendered from contemplating the beauty of a mountaintop. Continue.

If you've kept up with the news for the past several months about the Sunni extremist group that has been rampaging through Iraq, you're probably aware of the mini-controversy about what to call it. This group, which now refers to itself as the Islamic State, is known by a variety of names. One is ISIS, which is an acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Continue.

ELCA provides 20 seminarians with scholarships

Southeastern Synod seminarians Preston Fields (Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago) and Jamie Jordan-Couch (Wartburg Theological Seminary) are the recipients of full-tuition scholarships awarded through ELCA Fund for Leaders. In addition, Louis Tillman (Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago ) also of the Southeastern Synod, was awarded a half-tuition scholarship.  Click here to read about ELCA Fund for Leaders and the scholarship recipients.


Affirm 2015 - Mark your calendars, note the change
Affirm 2015 will return to Berry College, Mt. Berry, GA , but a week earlier than usual. Traditionally Affirm has started on Father's Day, but next year it will be held from June 14-19.  Please check the sesyouth.org website for details.

Newberry College Announces $35 Million Fundraiser Campaign 

 

Newberry College announced the public launch of its $35 million comprehensive capital campaign to fund new construction and facilities renovations and increase annual giving and endowment support for the institution. Continue.
