ROCKWELL PTA RECEIVES $1000 GRANT FOR RUNNING CLUB!

We have exciting news!  Thanks to the initiative taken by Rockwell parent/PTA member, Stacy Hatch in partnership with PE Teacher Debbie Conklin and Field Day Chairperson, Laura Drover, Rockwell 's Running Club has been awarded a $1000 grant to help Running Club "stay on track" for the next ten week session starting in March.

Rockwell's Running Club promotes physical fitness and encourages a healthy lifestyle amongst our student population.

This grant was awarded by the WA State PTA in conjunction with the Coca Cola Health and Well-Being grant program and will fund Rockwell's Running Club with new tracking supplies, prizes/incentives, and a shelter/tent for the parent volunteers who come out rain or shine to punch running cards.

Rockwell PTA thanks Stacy, Debbie and Laura for getting this grant up and running for our school. An extra thank you to the parent volunteers who keep the program moving. This is a great example of how parents of Rockwell make a big difference for our students!

PS: If you are able to investigate Corporate Grants, research funding opportunities and have a knack for raising funds (big or small), we need you on the PTA as our VP of Fundraising. Think of all the possibilities! Email Cari Scotkin with questions.
STUDENT DIRECTORIES - CORRECTIONS

If your child's information in the directory was incorrect or missing, please email [email protected] by Tuesday evening (1/20) so we can get to work on a correction addendum ASAP.

-Please Include: Child's name and the page number of the error(s) with the correct information (email, phone, address, parents names, etc...)

CONCERT INVITATION FROM OUR ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL

Dear Rockwell Community,

Let me start off by saying thank you so much for being so welcoming! It's been a wonderful experience being back at Rockwell as I am a Beagle alumni. It's been fantastic being given the opportunity and privilege to work and give back to the very school and community that I grew up in!

I wanted to extend a musical invitation to the Rockwell community for a Community Benefit Concert we put on each year at Horace Mann Elementary. This year we are donating to the Lake Washington Schools Foundations LINKS program. We will have short performances from the Horace Mann Elementary 4th and 5th grade class, a vocal quintet from Redmond High School, and from yours truly

We are setting aside 100 tickets for the Rockwell community. We are asking for a suggested minimum donation of $5 per ticket that can be given at the doors the night of the performance(checks made out to Horace Mann PTSA).

Please email me directly and I will be sure to leave tickets waiting for you at will call. This will be first come first serve for ticket requests.

PTA REFLECTIONS - ART CONTEST UPDATE
Thanks for Participating in PTA Reflections!
The World Would be a Better Place if...

A big thank-you to all the Rockwell artists who participated in the 2014 PTA Reflections art contest! We had many beautiful entries in a vari
ety of categories.

We had a great turnout at the Reflections Open House on Friday the 9th. Rockwell's artists were celebrated in a variety of different categories. Most of the art and ribbons will be distributed via kid mail this week.

Two entries were retained for display in other LWSD events:
-Let's Work it Out, by Layla A, 2nd (will be on display at the LWSD Founder's day luncheon)
-Miraculous Medicine by Malgorzata K, 5th. (Will be displayed at the LWSD Resource center.)

Parents: If your child enjoyed Reflections as much as we did, consider volunteering to chair or co-chair it for Rockwell PTA next year! The heaviest part of commitment is from September-October (where we advertise the theme, then collect and judge the artwork,) but then the showcases begin! This is a very rewarding role and I've been honored to co-chair with Felice for both Rockwell and RMS this year. As this is my last year at Rockwell, we need a new art lover to step in and take over! Please contact me for details about the job.

Sincerely, Emily Papel
VISION AND HEARING SCREENING - THANK YOU!

Thank you to the 27 amazing parent volunteers who made Vision and Hearing Screening day go very smoothly last Thursday. Thanks to the PTA for providing lunches for our nine all-day volunteers and the many school nurses who were able to be at Rockwell for the day. Thank you also to the teachers and staff for your flexibility with our schedule, to Diane Davenport and Debbie Ward for giving up your space for the day, and to Kerry Bauman and Julie Wulf for your help and support.
