VISION AND HEARING SCREENING - THIS THURSDAY

All Rockwell students will have vision and hearing screening this Thursday, January 15th during the school day.

If your child wears glasses, please make sure your child brings the glasses to school on Thursday to wear during the vision screening.  Screening is supervised by Lake Washington School District school nurses.  Parents will be contacted by the school nurse if there are any concerns needing additional follow-up outside of school.

Vision and Hearing Screening- Volunteers still needed
We've had a great response to the request for volunteers for Vision and Hearing Screening day.  Thank you to all who have volunteered! We still need a few more people for our morning shift (8:15-11:15am.)  No experience is necessary.  School nurses from the district will train parent volunteers in screening.  A school nurse will recheck any child with a questionable screening result.  The only requirements are your time, willingness, and being an approved volunteer with the district.

Please contact Jan Stemple with your questions or to volunteer.

Thank you,
Jan Stemple

3RD ANNUAL SPELLING BEE COMPETITION
Dear Rockwell Families,

Can you hear the buzzzzz in the air? Rockwell's 3rd annual
Spelling Bee Competition is coming up and we want your student to join in! The Bee is open to all students from 1st-5th grade and is a great way to show they are 'valorous' and interested in 'edification'!

Students can download a registration form as well as the actual word list and vocabulary list by going to our spelling bee website. They should complete and deliver the registration form to their teacher or the office. Students need not worry! The Spelling Bee Club coaches will give the students an overview of what to expect and how to prepare!

There are 2 rounds to the competition:

  • Multiple choice vocabulary (word definitions) test on Thurs Jan 29th at 11:45am in the library.
  • Students who pass the above will move onto the Rockwell Spelling Bee verbal competition on Sat Feb 28th at 9:00am in the Rockwell library
The winner will be crowned the school champion and prizes and certificates will also go to runner ups and grade level champions. The overall winner will go on to compete in the Regional competition and represent Rockwell.

The popular annual Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington DC is the highest profile academic event for elementary school students and Rockwell is proud to participate in this program at the local, regional, and hopefully national level!

We would love to have your child participate and be the next 'wunderkind'! Please contact nrspellingbeeclub@gmail.com for any questions!

Sincerely,
Sarita Valji
Spelling Bee Chairperson

YEARBOOK PHOTOS NEEDED

Heritage Night Photos Needed for Yearbook

Heritage Night is Thursday, January 22nd. It is a wonderful time to get photos of our beautifully diverse community participating in activities, costume and of course, eating! Can you help? We'd love to have one or two photographers capturing the memories from that evening.

If you have any photos from back to school, Halloween or holiday parties, please submit them before January 31st - those pages will be completed at that time and we won't be able to change the layouts for late photos.

If you have photos to send us (fewer than ten), please visit https://community.lifetouch.com/. Register and use our NEW school access code: LMGOVR. You will be able to upload photos directly to LifeTouch. If you have lots of photos, you can send a flash drive to the office and we'll return it to you ASAP.

Are you creative? Would you like to see the Rockwell yearbook become the best book ever? Do you like to learn new software? The entire yearbook is created electronically and the software is easy to learn. The yearbook team is fun and there is always room for more people.

Thanks!
