We are most grateful for the abundant blessings God has provided us and especially the many ministries of our West Ohio clergy and congregations. Thank you for all you do in the name of Jesus Christ to transform this world into a place of grace, abundance and safety for all of God's children.

Happy Thanksgiving from the staff of the West Ohio Conference

A message from our Bishop

Dear ones in Christ Jesus:

At every turn gun violence is taking lives and disrupting community and families. Since the announcement of the Grand Jury decision in St. Louis County last night I have grieved again as I have reflected upon lives lost, lives changed and communities set on edge. But I have also been heartened by every faith-filled, Christ-filled and peace-mongering sign I have observed from Ferguson, Missouri to West Ohio.

Prayer

Across this conference in community after community, in church after church, you are gathering for prayer and deep conversation and partnership-building to make a new world. Thank you. May you continue to claim the ministry that Apostle Paul reminds us is ours:

All of these new things are from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and who gave us the ministry of reconciliation. In other words, God was reconciling the world to himself through Christ, by not counting people's sins against them. He has trusted us with this message of reconciliation. So we are ambassadors who represent Christ.
(2 Corinthians 5:18-20a)

Charitable Pharmacy provides a lifeline to the most vulnerable

This is the third in a series of articles about our five West Ohio Conference Advance Specials.

The Charitable Pharmacy opened its doors to the community in April 2010 in Livingston United Methodist Church near downtown Columbus. A second location opened this year in Lower Lights Christian Health Center located on West Broad Street in the impoverished Franklinton area. In addition to critical pharmaceutical care, staff counsels patients on how to take better care of themselves and their families. An onsite chaplain offers spiritual guidance in troubling times. Close relationships with physicians, psychiatrists, other pharmacists, and a variety of faith-based, social service and healthcare agencies provides a continuum of care to address basic, psychological, and emotional needs. 'Jesus wept': Finding God's comfort when times are bad

The average week's worth of news can seem so bleak sometimes.  We turn to our faith for answers, but often the answers don't come easily. What are people of faith to do in the midst of overwhelming tragedy and strife? The shortest verse in the Bible, in the King James Version at least, is just two words, "Jesus wept" (John 11:35). Though only 10 characters, too short even to tweet, that verse has tremendous significance when we are struggling to find hope. Read more
