Imagine No Malaria planning for Advent

Churches across the denomination are using Imagine No Malaria as a seasonal mission focus that walks alongside this time of preparing our hearts and minds for the birth of the Christ child. Will you join them?

To help resource churches, West Ohio has helped the national INM team develop a host of Imagine No Malaria resources tailored for Advent that you can use in your church. Included are posters, worship packets and bulletin inserts like the beautiful one at the left. Visit The Box on the Church Resources tab at www.inmohio.org. If you need help in planning or additional resources please contact Dave Boling, West Ohio Field Coordinator for Imagine No Malaria He's excited to support you and your congregation in your life-saving efforts for Imagine No Malaria.

Call to prayer for peace

Episcopal CrestBishop Robert Schnase of the Missouri Conference has issued a Call for Prayer on the church's role as people await the Grand Jury decision in Ferguson. In his letter, he reminds us, "Our faith finds its roots in the hope for a day when 'the lion shall sleep with the lamb.' We serve a Lord who said, 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you.' For nearly two thousand years, we have offered 'grace and peace' to one another when we gather in Christ's name. Peace is our hope, our prayer, our yearning, our aim, our end, and it is our gift to the community." He also lifts up the United Methodist churches in the Ferguson community who are planning prayer vigils and continuing to be places of peace and respite. Read more

Thanksgiving Graphic: Saying thank you on social

Saying thank you is underrated. Here's a freeThanksgiving graphic to help you out. We think about it more in November, thanks to Thanksgiving. But saying thank you is something we need to do year-round. It's a good communication strategy. Paul never ceases to give thanks (Ephesians 1:16). Church Marketing Sucks designed this Thanksgiving graphic intentionally vague so you can use it in whatever way works for you on your social networking accounts. You get the JPG to use immediately and a PSD file if you want to make some tweaks.
Mission partnership highlight: Kamina Children's Home
Kamina Children's HomeThis December, United Methodists are invited to participate in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Please consider giving to one of West Ohio's mission partnerships in Cambodia, Congo, Laos, Mexico, Russia, or Vietnam where through your help the West Ohio Conference and Global Ministries are making a difference through long term partnerships. This is the third of a series highlighting each of those mission partnerships. Read more about Kamina Children's Home
Camps accredited by American Camp Association

The American Camp Association (ACA) has announced the official renewal of the accreditation for West Ohio's Camp Widewater in Liberty Center. The inspection process takes place every three years and was held while summer camp was in session last July. Camps awarded with the ACA accreditation have met very high standards in health, safety and risk management in the operation and programming of the camp. Congratulations to Widewater Camp Director Eric Witte, a 20 year veteran in camping leadership, and his staff team. West Ohio's two other camps, Camp Otterbein and Camp Wesley, are accredited as well. For information on camps or retreats please visit the website at westohiocamps.org or email [email protected].

The power of a Question!

Questions are powerful tools in the work of the Kingdom of God. Recently, Rev. David Miller was asked by a member of the youth group at Edon UMC, "Is the United Methodist Church doing anything in the world?"  Rev. Miller responded with information about the Imagine No Malaria mission project and how the United Methodist Church was working to stop malaria deaths. He told them also about how just a few years ago a child died every 30 seconds and while it's not the goal, now a child dies every 60 seconds. Read what the youth group did next

7 things to remember when hosting a guest preacher

Business people group at meeting seminar presentation. You know when someone invites you for dinner and, from the moment you arrive, you feel thoroughly welcomed and properly hosted? Not the stiff-but-proper Martha Stewart style hosting but the kind of hosting that seems both effortless and personal, as if they've been waiting all along for you to show up. Preaching at someone else's church should be more like this. Sometimes we overlook the ordinary, thoughtful, basic elements of hosting. Read more

Get tons of clicks: Choosing the right images

The Bible's use of imagery is part of what makes it so captivating and why we must become fluent in the use of visual images to communicate. If yours is like most churches, outside of direct traffic, most visitors access your site through a link you or someone else shares on a social media platform like Facebook or Twitter. Much of what attracts attention is the image associated with the post. Here are tips on selecting images that will drive more traffic to your site. Learn more
