Students meet with seminaries

Representatives from 11 United Methodist Seminaries from California to Washington D.C. visited West Ohio on October 22 to talk with students who are considering attending seminary. Those attendance had the opportunity to talk one-one with seminary reps as well as have their application fee waived. During a panel discussion with Bishop Gregory V. Palmer, Rev. Amy Aspey, Rev. Joe Graves, and moderator, Rev. Paul Risler, panelists offered insights on their own seminary journey and answered questions from the students. Photos

Connectional Table holds panel on sexuality

A video submitted by a mother whose gay son died by suicide after facing condemnation in the church was one of four personal stories viewed and discussed by a panel on sexuality in The United Methodist Church. The mother's video sparked the most vehement reaction from the panel of six bishops (which included West Ohio's Bishop Palmer) and the head of the denomination's publishing house during the Nov. 1 live webcast. Lilly Endowment invites eligible congregations to apply for grants of up to $50,000 each to support a renewal program for their pastor. Voting results for constitutional amendments
|
The Council of Bishops announced November 4 from their meeting in Oklahoma City that all four amendments to The United Methodist Church's constitution approved by the 2012 General Conference received the required majority of votes to be ratified by annual conferences. A two-thirds majority vote of General Conference delegates is required to amend the Constitution of The United Methodist Church. The amendments must also be ratified by annual conferences by a two-thirds affirmative vote. The vote results are reported to the Council of Bishops, where they are counted, verified and certified. The vote counts for each of the amendments are found in this news release.

Let us remember in prayer those grieving the loss of their loved one, and remember in thanksgiving the life of:
Rev. John L. Dunham, retired elder, who died on November 3. John is survived by his wife, Dolores, and children, Kathy (Rich), Claire, David and Jim (Deb); grandchildren, Jenny (Thom), Elizabeth (Tim), AJ, Russell, Robbie and great grandson, Warner. Over the course of forty years in ministry Rev. Dunham served United Methodist churches in Columbus, Englewood, Marietta, Bowling Green, Lima, and Middletown, retiring after serving as superintendent of the former Dayton North district in the West Ohio Conference. John also served as a trustee of Otterbein Senior Lifestyles Choices, culminating in the role of chairman of the corporate board. Obituary. Services will be held on Saturday, November 8 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429. Visitation will start at 9:30 am and be immediately followed by the memorial service starting at 10:30 am with Rev. Barry DeShetler officiating. Attending clergy are asked to wear a robe with white stole and form a procession into the service.
