Lady Jay Hoops Return to Columbia for State Final Four
The Liberty High School Lady Jays basketball team advanced to the state final four with a convincing victory over Belton in the state quarterfinal round last Saturday. The Lady Jays now advance to Columbia for a second consecutive year, facing Springfield Kickapoo in a state semifinal game on Thursday, March 17, at 5:10 p.m. To view the complete Class 5 bracket, click here. LSDF Hosts Successful State of the District Breakfast
The Liberty School District Foundation hosted a State of the District Breakfast on March 15 at William Jewell College. Over 160 attended the event, with $18,000 raised through sponsors and individual seats being sold. In addition, LSDF presented two Excellence in Education Grants to the following schools and programs:
- Building a Foundation of Coding and Programming in Young Learners: $8,385 will go to support librarian instruction around coding and programming at Lillian Schumacher Elementary, Liberty Oaks Elementary, and Lewis and Clark Elementary.
- The Science of Intonation: $3,375 will go to support purchasing electronic tuners for the Liberty North High School program.
LPS Superintendent, Dr. Jeremy Tucker, also provided the audience with a State of the District address. Congratulations to everyone with the Liberty School District Foundation for hosting an amazing event!

Summer School Transportation Deadline Near
If you plan to have your child(ren) attend our summer school program in June, remember the transportation deadline is April 5. Students who are not registered for summer school by this date will not be eligible for bus transportation. Liberty Early Birds Are Future Ready

Excellent Showing for LNHS ProStart Culinary Team
Last month, the LNHS ProStart Culinary team competed at the State ProStart Invitational in Springfield, MO. Liberty North had an excellent showing, as they ranked 6th out of the 28 Missouri teams that competed! Students had one hour to complete a gourmet meal including a starter, protein entrée with sides, and dessert. This is while cooking in an open ballroom with no electric equipment, just two gas burners! Please congratulate Madalyn Riley, Kayla Thomas, Brett Donner, and Jacob Branson for a job well done!

LNHS Students Chosen for Academic Honor
Two Liberty North High School seniors, Sara Venier and Hope Giddings, have been selected for the 2016 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the graduating class of 2016. The announcement was made by Liberty North High School Principal Dr. Martin Jacobs. Students will be recognized at a luncheon at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, MO, on April 24.

LNHS Winter Guard Having Successful Season
Liberty North's Winter Guard has been working hard and is having a very successful season! They placed first again this past weekend at the MCCGA Competition held at Lee's Summit North. They also placed 3rd at Park Hill on January 23, 1st at Grain Valley on February 20, and 2nd at Blue Springs South on February 27. They will be heading to Springfield April 1 to compete in the Mid-Continent Color Guard Championships. Be watching for upcoming information regarding tryouts for the 2016-17 team, which will be held April 18-21.

LNHS Scholar Bowl Team Finishes Third
Liberty North's Scholar Bowl team finished 3rd in the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Tournament held at Fort Osage on March 9. Team members Elliott Yoakum and Hillary Albert were named to the All-Conference Tournament Team. Additional team members include Brooks Casel, Sarah Myers, and Kaylee Chase. The team is coached by Mary Coogan and Rosemary Camp. The next competition the team faces is the MSHSAA Class 4, District 15 Tournament to be held at Liberty North on April 16.

Liberty Speech and Debate Earns 8 National Qualifiers
Congratulations to the Liberty Speech and Debate Team for their accomplishments these past two weekends at the National Speech and Debate Association District Tournament Series!
From March 3rd to the 5th, the squad attempted to earn qualifications to the National Tournament in debate events, and they had a great weekend! Natalie Schaller (junior) qualified to the National Tournament in Lincoln Douglas Debate. Phoebe Alpern, Paul Ambrose, Samantha Bennett, and Jordan Cowger (seniors) qualified in Public Forum debate. Hannah Sanders and Emma Kenney (sophomores) qualified in Policy Debate.
Last weekend, the squad fought hard to qualify in individual events and had some great success. Natalie Schaller and Phoebe Alpern built off the previous weekend's achievements and earned District Championships in United States Extemp and International Extemp.
Sarah Keenan (freshman) also punched her ticket to the National Tournament in Salt Lake City by placing 3rd in Humorous Interpretation. Congrats to Weston Brown (freshman) and Trevor Harr (senior) for finishing as the 1st alternate in Duo Interp and Max Cronin (senior) for finishing as the first alternate in US Extemp.
The team looks to build on its success at the MSHSAA District State Qualifying Tournament this weekend!

Motivational Speaker Coming to LNHS, LHS
Liberty North High School, Liberty High School, and Liberty Alliance for Youth are excited to announce Cara Filler, a top Youth Motivational and Prevention speaker, will be coming to Liberty to speak with LNHS and LHS students! Liberty North students will hear Filler on Monday, March 28, and Liberty High School students will hear her on Tuesday, March 29. Filler encourages students to care more for others and speak up for themselves and what they believe in, so they can stand out from the crowd. She will also be speaking at a Parent Night on March 28 at the Liberty Performing Arts Theater from 7-8 p.m. All parents of students are invited to attend this special presentation. 2016-2017 LHS Sapphire Auditions
For all those dancers interested in auditioning for the 2016-2017 Liberty High School Sapphire Dance Team, tryouts will be held March 28-April 1 in the Liberty High School Cokely Fieldhouse. Audition workshops will run from 3:30-5:30 p.m. March 28-31. Panel judging will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 1. A required tryout informational meeting is set for Wednesday, March 16, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Liberty High School cafeteria. Mr. and Ms. North Competition Benefits Necessities Closet
April 2 at 7 p.m., the Liberty North Key Club will be hosting their annual Mr. and Ms. North competition in the Performing Arts Theatre. The competition will include talents, dances, and skits from the following LN seniors: Carson Armour, Maddy Mattson, Ryan Sprugel, Lindsay Marvine, Tyler Lamport, Libby Westhues, Tyler Carpenter, Kammi Porter, Logan Graybill, Abby Day, Luke Kernell, and Chandra Bolin.The show will be hosted by LN's own Ted Maxwell!
If you're interested in a ticket, which is only $5, simply email kmitchell@liberty.k12.mo.us. This year's show, which will be fun for all ages, is particularly special to our club. Proceeds will go to stock the shelves of our new LPS Necessities Closet. The Necessities Closet will be used by the LPS social workers to serve needy students and families in our district. Parents as Teachers Construction Zone Dad Event
Dads, this is an event just for you and your little one! Join Liberty Parents as Teachers for a morning of fun in our Construction Zone. You will have an opportunity to design, build, and destroy all kinds of structures.
For: Dads and their child(ren) 14 months to pre-kindergarten

Liberty Juniors Last Volleyball League of School Year
Volleyball Opportunity for 3rd-7th Graders: We are offering our last volleyball league for this school year. Liberty Juniors is a league that provides skill training, develops fundamentals, while offering a game-like atmosphere. The league will meet at Liberty Middle School on Sundays from 3:30-5 p.m. The league is six sessions long and will start April 10. Cost for the league is $70, which includes a team t-shirt. Deadline for registration is April 4. There are limited openings for this session, so please complete the registration form, and get it turned in as soon as possible. Liberty North Football Having 4th Annual Spring Clean-Up
Liberty North High School's football team will be having their very successful, 4th Annual Spring Clean-Up on Saturday, April 16. This project includes raking leaves, doing yard work, and picking up trash on the roads and highways in our community. Proceeds help supplement our football budget and, among other things, will help to purchase and recondition our helmets and other equipment to keep our athletes safe. Recycle Liberty - Note Time Change
Clean out that basement or office, then consider taking your unused and broken electronics to Liberty High School's parking lot on Saturday, April 16, for free recycling. Students will be at the drop off area from 9 a.m. to noon. If it has a cord or runs on batteries, we'll take it! There will be a small fee for CRT TV's ($20-$50, given size). We cannot take VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, light bulbs, ballasts, or batteries. This event is sponsored by the LHS Key Club and T4T (Tech for Teens). #RecycleLiberty

Burns & McDonnell Program: Your World Empowered
Shape It. Change It. Improve It. Burns & McDonnell has planned an exciting evening program on April 20 to help students explore the possibilities of a career in engineering, architecture, drafting, environmental science, or construction management. Students in grades 7-12, along with their parents, are invited to the event at the Burns & McDonnell world headquarters in Kansas City. This program will include an overview of the variety of STEM-related careers, seeing how classroom education is relevant to the real world, learning about job shadowing and internship opportunities, gaining real-world perspectives from Burns & McDonnell employee-owners, followed by a question and answer panel discussion with employee-owners to answer questions.

Registration March 28 for Earnest Shepherd Youth Summer Camp
Earnest Shepherd Youth Center's summer camp registration opens on March 28th at 8 a.m. Our summer day camp line-up includes Camp Half Blood, Camp Crazee Daze, Harry Potter Camp, Art Camp, Adventure Camp, and Camp Grimm. Each week targets a different age group and camp script. Camps will be held May 31-August 12. Beginning swim lessons will be offered the month of June. 365 Track Club Could be for Your Student
If your student is between the ages of 6-18 and interested in track, the 365 Track Club may be just for them. It is the next step for kids who want to run track and receive personalized training during the off seasons. Summer training begins April 19 and runs through July 30.
