In this new collection Sublime has modernized classic baby-wear that would otherwise look dated, such as cardigans, sweater vests, and one darling bonnet. In other words, "Squee!" Please note that for the statutory holiday, our Edgemont location will be closed for the day, and our Point Grey location will be open holiday hours of 12-5pm. Our web store, as always, will be open 24 hours a day, however any weekend or Monday orders will be mailed out on Tuesday Feb. 9th. Happy day off if you've got it!
Swooning for Berroco Mykonos 

 

On occasion we bring in a new yarn that catches on like wildfire, and this month it is Berroco Mykonos (21-24 st / 4"). Within the first two days we had two sold-out colours and a sell-out of the accompanying pattern book! See why below... (Don't worry, we brought in a speedy restock shipment for both stores and online.)

 





Similar to Berroco's discontinued Seduce yarn (which we also sold out of!) and dare we say even better, "Mykonos is a silky blend of linen, nylon, and cotton that knits and crochets beautifully, creating fabrics with amazing drape." You've got to feel the springiness of the demo shawl at our Point Grey store!

Martin Storey Afghan KAL Update

The first square's colour(s) and pattern have been released to the world! Hop on to this beginner/intermediate knit along at any time; Urban Yarns has each of the 4 colourway suggestions of Rowan Pure Wool Worsted bagged up and ready to go, and the biweekly pattern releases are free at www.knitrowan.com. Here are Anina's first square in the "Calm" colourway (left) and Alison's in the "Blues" colourway:

Save the (Launch) Date!
On the evening of Friday Feb. 26th, 7-9pm, Urban Yarns 
Point Grey will be having a little 'do to celebrate the addition of Caitlin Ffrench's patterns and naturally-dyed "These Secrets" yarns to our offerings. There will be 3-skein gradient kits for her new Simple Brilliance shawl pattern, and 1-skein gradient kits bundled with Urban Yarns' own Deanna Kruskinsky's chunky lace cowl pattern designed specifically for Caitlin's yarn, debuting that night! Both Caitlin and Deanna will be on hand to answer questions and share their smiles :)

Urban Yarns Student Project Feature 

Lisa emailed this pic of her F.O. (finished object) to instructor Karen. When Karen asked if we could feature it in our newsletter, this was her exact reply: "Sure!! You can post all of my pictures! You can say 'Karen's student' �������� Because you are a great knitting instructor.

Anyone who is a 'Tosh fan and uses that many smiley faces is a kindred spirit in our books! I believe this is the "Wowligan" pattern by Kate Davies in the Madelinetosh

We have had some great new people come into our lives, and we'd like to share them with you! The Academy classes and Fresh Prep products are Urban Yarns staff tested and approved, and sounds like we should do some "testing" of the upcoming Skipping Stone Beach B&B knitting retreat too!

Skipping Stone Beach B&B Knitting Retreat

Tanis Wilkie is hosting Skipping Stone Beach B&B's first ever knitting retreat this February 27th-29th, so we thought we'd help her spread the word! With baby sock and troubleshooting classes taught by instructor Mary Longcroft ("Tanti"), all info is in the announcement email here.
