Vol. 3, Issue 4 | April 2014
Drop Shadow Accent Image

Greetings!

In January's issue, I spoke at length about the Chinese New Year being the year of the Horse; I was pretty excited about it, as were others with whom I had spoke. It seems to be turning out as promised, and I sincerely do not think it's a self-fulfilling prophecy - although there'd be nothing wrong with that!

It's been powerful, rich, and fast! Spirit has me stretching in a myriad of ways and it seems like there's more, more, more of everything in my life! Travel... business opportunities... volunteer projects... joy... self-understanding... compassion for self and others. On and on it goes. I am grateful.

How's your life galloping along?

Blessings,

Practicing Compassion in a Creative Way

I was reading why Mahatma Gandhi is Frederic A. Brussat's hero and I just had to smile after reading the following story...

"One day Gandhi stepped aboard a train as it started to move, and one of his shoes slipped off and dropped on the tracks. Unable to retrieve it, he calmly took off his other shoe and threw it back along the track to land close to the first. When an amazed passenger asked why he had done that, Gandhi smiled and said, 'The poor man who finds the shoe lying on the track will now have a pair he can use.' With the eyes of his imagination, Gandhi saw a man with bare feet, saw him coming across a lone shoe and desperately searching for the other, and saw the disappointment on his face when he didn't find it; seeing these things, Gandhi did what he could to help."

How logical an act - and, how compassionate and creative too! To learn some of the other reasons why Gandhi is Brussat's hero, gaining further insight into Gandhi too, click here

How's Your Social Media IQ?

Social media is such a big thing these days for individuals and organizations alike. Since I'm getting more involved with it for myself and clients, I thought it made sense to do a little research around it - and share it with you, of course.

Social media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. Yep, content is based on user participation and user-generated content.

The different forms in which it exists include: magazines, Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, wikis, social networks, podcasts, photographs or pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking.

Let's have some fun! Here's a brief quiz to test your Social Media IQ...

Finding Inspiration for Content

Whether you have writer's block, you're running out of time, or you're simply looking for fresh content ideas for your e-newsletter, website, blog, or Facebook Page post, in this age of abundant information and great technology, there are plenty of sources from which to draw inspiration. However, let's not forget meditation! Here are some additional avenues for finding inspiration for content.

Keep an idea journal - As you read catalogs, magazines, books, etc. - and simply go about living your life! - keep your eyes and ears open for ideas, then jot them down.

Look to others in your field or industry - See what others in your professional field or business are talking about and then offer a different viewpoint or advice on a topic. You could also interview other experts.

Interview one of your customers or someone in your organization - Feature a loyal customer - or even a new recipient of your service or product -, staff member, or volunteer, and write about a challenge and how they've overcome it. Ask the interviewee to share the story with their own contacts in order to increase the breadth of your audience.

Go in-house asking for topic ideas - Create a simple system to gather topic ideas from those who know your business or organization best - your employees, board members, and volunteers. You could even...

WordPress Security

WordPress security is serious business and what you don't know can actually hurt you! A hacked site can wreak havoc on your search engine rankings for weeks or more without you knowing about it. And, you can lose sales if your customer notices your hacked site before you do.

After I was notified that a visitor to one of my client's websites had received a message from her anti-virus program about malware being on the site, I installed the Wordfence Security plugin in order to have the site scanned to see what was going on. I'm so glad I did - and I've since installed it on all the WordPress sites I manage! It's easy to use, can prevent your site from being hacked, and provides information about troubleshooting if it finds something amiss. I get an email message when a user logs into the site, as well as when someone attempts to log in - like a hacker.

Wordfence Security is an enterprise class security plugin that is 100% free although a premium version is available.

It starts by checking if your site is already infected. When you run a scan, the source code is compared to the Official WordPress repository for core, themes and plugins. Then Wordfence secures your site and makes it up to 50 times faster.

To learn more, visit the Wordfence website.  It includes an informative, one-minute video, not to mention a map showing the plugin protecting WordPress sites in real-time.

When I lived back east, April showers brought May flowers. Well, that's not how it is here in Arizona. As I finish writing this, with a few hours to spare before April 2014 is gone forever, the wind is howling, with gusts as high as 38 mph, and the dust is swirling in the dark night. It's a bit scary, all that power, that force. However, it makes me think that while there is all that power outside, there is also plenty of power swirling here within. The Divine Mystery is always with us, and neither you nor I are alone.

Yours in Spirit,

bottomgodwordJoyce "came to believe" in a Power greater than herself about 24 years ago. Thanks to hearing the novel idea that one could choose their own concept of God - and name too - and the workings of synchronicity, Joyce embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. Since that time of commencing her conscious spiritual journey, she has endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom she meets, and all that she does - including working with others and their computer and marketing projects!
