How could I NOT write about Spring?! It's my favorite season of the year, and, here in the beautiful Red Rock Country and Verde Valley of Northern Arizona, the plants, flowers, trees, and winged ones have been blossoming and chirping, not just for a week, but for months! Yes, literally. And, while I'm not a winter person and have welcomed the very mild temps this past 'winter' (there really hasn't been one), I did hold some concern for Nature. So now that Spring is officially here, my concern is eased...  although I know we could have a snowstorm next month!

In preparing to write this opening greeting, I decided to see what I'd written last year about Spring, knowing full-well I would not have passed the opportunity to mention it!

I read about what I was involved in a year ago and how I was feeling at the early stages of transitioning into being a single woman again and implementing changes into my new life. I'm fascinated at how much of my life today is so wonderfully similar - okay, I've not stuck with work schedule boundaries. The Threshold Singers of Sedona recently celebrated its 1st birthday. My spiritual work now includes participating in a Sacred Family Circle, studying, learning, and practicing nonviolent communication, radical forgiveness, and love for no reason. Friendships - from a year ago, as well as more recently formed ones - continue to get deeper. And, fulfilling work projects with great clients have been accompanied by financial abundance.

And, to end, I continue to be in at least as delightful a space as I was in when I wrote a year ago: "I'm feeling a vibrancy within, enthusiasm, joy, and openness to trying new things, having new adventures... Kind of like a child who is immersed in learning about life and living as a spiritual being having a human experience. And, I feel a great deal more peace."

So, enough about me - how are you?

Blessings,

Computers and Spirit - An Oxymoron?

The following is a story from an old Daily Guideposts, which goes to show you Spirit and technology ARE compatible and can work together for Good!

Log on.

Password.

"Dadshealth," I typed. Dad had had a bad cold lately. Maybe the symptoms indicated something more serious. I'd been worried about him. That's why I'd made "Dadshealth" my password - a reminder to pray for him.

"You have twelve days to change your password. Do you want to change it now?" my computer asked me.

"No," I told the computer. Dad wasn't out of the woods yet. He was doing better though. The doctor had run some tests. We'd find out if it was serious.

Twelve days. That must have meant I'd been praying for him for eighteen days, because...

The QQQ Trick for Word Formatting

Have you ever copied and pasted something into Word, only to discover it inserts paragraph returns in odd places? [You'll need to have your Show/Hide button on to see them and other Word formatting.] This commonly happens when you copy and paste text from an email or a web page into Word.

If you have a lot of text facing this problem, you'll love this trick! I learned it from Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords. He calls it the QQQ Trick.
  1. Press CTRL+H, search for ^p^p and replace it with QQQ
  2. Search for ^p and replace it with nothing.
  3. Search for QQQ and replace it with ^p^p
Voil - you have reflowable text again. You may still have a little bit of clean up to do, but this process is really fabulous.

This trick has other uses with other variations. Essentially, you're using a wildcard - QQQ - as a temporary placeholder for something. Note: Mark chose QQQ because the letters are unlikely to ever appear in natural language.

Try it out and email me to let me know what you think about it!

You Must Read This!

I've previously mentioned Michael Katz, an award-winning humorist, entrepreneur and former corporate marketer. Michael has the wonderful ability to provide a "lesson" along with a relevant story that makes his e-newsletters interesting and memorable - and keep me wanting to come back for more! His focus is on solo professionals, but do not be fooled: so often what he writes about is applicable to not just work, but to life.

You simply must read Michael's recent e-newsletter post "Staying Alive, Staying Alive"- and, don't bypass clicking the link about the Bee Gees! The story is initially about a fellow basketball player fainting on the court one Tuesday evening. But the article is about so much more. And, don't forget to read the comments too - they further enrich an already vivid story and offer more to contemplate.

Here's how it begins...

A few weeks ago, during my Tuesday night basketball game, somebody fainted.

Not feinted, as is usually the case. I mean fainted. As in plop, straight down to the ground, right there in the middle of the court.

And so we all rushed over and stood around him, wondering what to do.

Wondering, because out of the 20+ men present, our combined medical knowledge was discouragingly weak.

How weak? Let's just say that in the competition that night for "Most Prepared to Treat a Possible Heart Attack Victim," it was a tie between a financial planner who claimed to "watch a lot of Discovery Channel programming" and a guy whose dog...

10 Essential SEO Tips...

Last week I was privileged to be part of a Constant Contact/SCORE workshop in Tempe, AZ: "Top 10 Tips for Email + Social Media Marketing to Boost Your Business." It was a fun, informative, and beneficial gathering.

Jared Smith of Talent Evolution, based in Irvine, CA, gave a lively and very up-to-date presentation on Search Engine Optimization (SEO), "the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" "algorithmic") search results."

Of course, these days optimizing your social networks is essential to optimizing your website. So are interlinking and backlinking, and having easy website navigation. Jared was kind enough to share his presentation with me, so to learn more essential SEO tips, click here.
