All Grown Up: Maturation of Analytics in the Cloud
Nov. 6 @ 4 ET
Live Webcast

The desire for analytics today extends far beyond the traditional domain of Business Intelligence. The challenge is that operational systems come in countless shapes and sizes. Furthermore, each application treats data somewhat differently. But there are patterns of data flow and transformation that pervade all such systems. And there's one big place where all these data types and use cases have come together architecturally: the Cloud. Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to hear veteran Analyst Wayne Eckerson explain how Cloud computing is ushering in a new era of analytics and intelligence.

Why Mixed Workloads Really Matter
Oct. 30 @ 4 ET
Live Webcast

Success in today's information economy rises and falls on the efficiency of data management. Part of that picture deals with data flows and mixed workloads. Companies that leverage versatile database technologies that can handle both transactional and analytical workloads can save time, money and headaches on data movement. It's an old method with some very new twists, and it could change the way companies manage their information assets. Register for this episode of the Briefing Room to hear veteran Analyst Robin Bloor who will explain the impact of data flows on modern Information Architecture. He'll also tout the purpose of using a flexible SQL engine in this era of NoSQL technologies.

In the early 1960s, Edward Lorenz, the American meteorologist and pioneer of chaos theory suggested that the flapping of a butterfly's wings in some far-flung jungle could trigger a hurricane on the other side of the world. Lorenz was making two points, the second of which is often missed. The first mathematically observed fact was that very small perturbations in initial parameters can have unexpectedly enormous consequences in the outcome of a model.

The smart investment money in software application development is in the management layer.

Actually that's not true, the smart money is probably on almost every level of the application development lifecycle; but the deployment, release automation, testing, governance and release management layer is now developing to a level of fabulously penetrating enrichment never quite seen before.
