Congratulations to our Donlon 2013 Excellence In Education Award Winner The Pleasanton PTA Council, in partnership with the Pleasanton Unified School District, recently announced the 2013 winners of the Excellence in Education Awards. The 2013 Honoree from Donlon: Cynthia Vance Congratulations Mrs. Vance!! |
Thank you to all of the 5th Grade Graduation Corporate sponsors Thank you to our wonderful sponsors! Their generosity helped make our 5th Grade Graduation Celebration a success. This is a day that our kiddos have looked forward to, and worked hard for, for 6 years. They started Kindergarten barely knowing how to read, write or do math. But look at them now! They have grown not only as students academically but as individuals with strong life-skills. They are closing their chapter on elementary school and charging forward to greet Middle School. But on this day, they get to spend one more afternoon with their friends as elementary students playing games, eating treats, winning prizes and plain old having fun. This is in a large part due to our sponsors. If you have a chance please try to patronize these businesses to show your appreciation for their support. Thank you. |

New Editor in Chief named for the Donlon Paw Print Congratulations to Caroline Gersich for being named the new Editor in Chief for next year's Donlon Paw Print the Donlon school newspaper. Please follow the link below to read all of the exciting articles written by Donlon students. http://www.donlonpawprint.com/Donlon_Paw_Print/Welcome.html |
Donlon Paw Print Newspaper needs a new parent facilitator
The newspaper club needs a new parent facilitator to be able to continue for the 2013-2014 school year. This is a kid driven project. There are students who are the Editor in Chief and Assistant Editor in Chief who really do the work of making sure everyone has an article to work on, etc.
The parent volunteer needs to help determine who will be in newspaper club, facilitate communication with parents, be present for the meetings (after school in the computer lab - day is negotiable with staff sponsor), and put articles on website. (Website is done on iWeb on a Mac). The facilitator would work with the staff sponsor Michele Pollack.
All 4th and5th graders have the opportunity to join the newspaper club, but we need to find a new parent facilitator for next year in order for this club to continue. If you want to help with this wonderful kid driven newspaper, please contact Michele Pollack at mpollack@pleasantonusd.net.

Student Directory Update
Our student directory will be updated over the summer. Parents should expect to receive an email during the summer asking them to confirm (one click!) or update their Family Contact Information. It should only take a minute or two to do this. We appreciate your prompt response. It will save you time at fall Walk-Thru Registration.
If you currently use the online directory, you may experience periodic interruptions in service during our summer software updates. In mid-August, all access will be suspended. If you purchase a directory at Walk-Thru Registration, you will be granted access to next year's directory in mid-September.
If you have any feedback on last year's print or online directory, please send your comments to Christina Maehr at maehr@sbcglobal.net.

Donlon Drop-Off and Pick Up Procedures Reminders: Please remember, the main front parking lot is the ONLY parking lot for parents. Also, please note that the Hill-N-Dale parking is for staff/Hill-N-Dale and a special ed student drop off. It is NOT to be used for pick up/drop off as there is no supervision in this area. There are signs posted for your information and we have traffic/parking maps available in the office. Parents need to stay in vehicles and help make our drop off and pick up procedures as smooth as possible. Thank you so much Donlon Families. |
Volunteer Clearances for 2013/14: Due to safety reason, volunteers must submit new clearances for the following school year. If you want to volunteer in a classroom, attend a field trip, or support in any way at the school site you must be cleared. Please find our 2013/14 Volunteer Clearance form on the Donlon website under Miscellaneous forms/Information. |
Moving??
Please contact Diana Boehmer in the Donlon office if you are planning on moving out of the area or to another school in the District for classes next fall. This will allow spaces to open up for other children on the waiting list or who will move here and will be new to Donlon.

Injured 1st Grader at Donlon
On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, 6 year old Donlon first grader Ruth Carpizo was leaning against the screen of her open window to see her friends playing outside when the screen gave way and she fell three stories to the concrete parking lot below, suffering a traumatic brain injury. She is now at Oakland Children's Hospital facing a long recovery while they try to rehabilitate her from such serious brain trauma. This is an excruciating time for the family. All the encouragement, prayers and well-wishes from the community and Ruth's classmates has truly made a difference for the Carpizos during this painful process. If anyone would like to send a card to Ruth or her family, please send to:
