The Missing and Exploited Children's Program (MECP) invites you to participate in December's webinar on Missing Children with Special Needs. MECP has partnered with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) for this presentation. The behaviors and actions of missing children with special needs are often very different than that of a missing non-affected child. As such, finding and safely recovering a missing child with special needs often presents unique and difficult challenges for families, law enforcement, first responders and search teams. This webinar's goal is to enhance efforts to help locate children with special needs by increasing the audience's awareness of the challenges associated with searching for children with special needs and providing strategies for investigators who search for them. Participants will receive information on investigative resources available to them through NCMEC. Registration is free for this event held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, from 2-3PM EST. Space is limited.

While not directly dealing with persons with I/DD, this webinar may include information applicable to that clientele because of the similarity in susceptibility to abuse, exploitation and neglect as persons with dementia, e.g., Alzheimer's Disease:

Presented by the Administration on Aging and the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging, this webinar series covers legal issues of people with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and their caregivers. Persons with AD are particularly vulnerable to financial exploitation, physical or emotional abuse, and neglect both at home and in care facilities. This webinar, as outlined in the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease, will help ensure that people with AD have their dignity, safety, and rights maintained.
