Scripting Projects

The Custom Office module for Sage 100 ERP is very powerful!  We encourage you to ask yourself what can your system do for you?  A number of our clients have asked this question of themselves and us and we've been able to streamline data entry and improve accuracy by adding scripts using the Custom Office module.  Scripts are better than custom programming as they can be tweaked more cost-effectively and generally do not require additional programming (ie cost) as you upgrade your Sage 100 ERP system to the latest version.

Below are a few examples that have been implemented or are being considered:
  • Commission rates calculated using a complex formula based on warehouse, customer, item, product line, or sale pricing.  If you are spending too much time calculating or reporting on commission amounts at month end, let's discuss your requirements and see how we can save you time and improve accuracy
  • No backorders-- no problem.  Do you have customers who do not want you to send backorders?  If the original order cannot be shipped in full and the customer prefers not to have backorders, we've developed a script that automatically changes the backorder quantity to 0 and adds a line to the invoice that advises the customer and suggests that they reorder the nonshipped items on their next regular order
  • Credit reason.  Do you want to track the reason for issuing credit memos to your customers?  You've asked your users to make a comment as to why, but sometimes they just forget.  We've developed a script for a customer that if a Credit Memo is created, it cannot be saved/accepted until they select from a list of valid reasons.  This will make analyzing credits much easier
  • Mini point of sale.  Add a field to the SO Invoice Data Entry screen to enter the amount of cash received from a customer and display the amount of change to give to the customer (including the Canadian rules for rounding to the nearest 5 cents!)

These are just a few examples of scripts that we have done in the last 3 months alone.  Check our one of our prior newsletters for other script examples.  Let us know if you'd like to discuss ways that you, too, can streamline data entry and improve accuracy by scripting!

We look forward to your feedback and your ideas for future issues of our newsletter.  If you would like to contribute an article or suggest an article or support tip to a future newsletter, we'd love to have your contribution.  Please let us know how we can help you
