You've been hearing us talk about it for months: new Fiber and faster Broadband in Nebraska City. The new provider, Spiral Communications has just started Phase I of the installation of fiber in the downtown area and has over ½ mile of fiber already installed. Welcoming the new workforce and seeing the equipment being installed is another testament to economic develop growth. Currently working on their first phase of fiber installation, the company expects to have fiber to not only the downtown businesses but our industries as well. As an added bonus, over Apple Jack weekend, Spiral Communications is providing free Wi-Fi on Central Avenue from 6 th Street to 11 th Street, providing our residents and visitors greater connectivity in downtown Nebraska City. Spiral Communications has also invested in a downtown building for their Nebraska headquarters at 800 Central Avenue in Nebraska City. This beautiful building renovation has kept with the historical feel of Nebraska City while incorporating the needs of fiber technology. Spiral Communications will be hosting a Ribbon Cutting and Open House on September 25th, so you can stop by for a tour.
The fall is a busy time in Otoe County, beginning in August with the Otoe County Fair in Syracuse. If you had attended the Otoe County Fair, you would have met an outstanding group of young people! 4-H has a proven track record of growing kids into responsible and confident leaders. These are committed young people following their passions from raising and showing livestock, growing vegetables, clothing construction to photography, and so many more hands-on-projects. The fair is that one time of the year they can showcase the fruits of their labors. The highlight of September in Nebraska City is Apple Jack weekend. This year the weekend will start on Friday, September 19th at 5:00 p.m. and the festival wraps up on Sunday, September 21st. Sunday's highlight for the car enthusiast is the River City Car Show from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For a full schedule of events, click on: Apple Jack Festival Schedule of Events. When you visit Nebraska City, be sure to check out some of the extensive updates to buildings on Central Avenue that were highlighted in the last newsletter including:

- Central Apple Market - 701 Central Ave.
