Foundation Accepting Scholarship Apps
More than $260,000 in scholarships is being offered to students. Fullerton College Foundation, with private donors, alumni and local corporations, is supplying nearly 300 scholarships. The online application is now available and closes on Feb. 28. Workshops are available to assist students in the scholarship process. Visit this link for information about workshops. Measure J Approved
This bond measure for the North Orange County Community District will fund restoration, renovation and building facilities for Fullerton College, Cypress College and the School of Continuing Education's Anaheim campus. Originally results were certified in November, recount activity took place in early December and the measure was finally certified passing with over 55 percent of votes. Save the Date: Diversity Reading
On Feb. 19, NOCCCD's Office of Equity and Diversity is sponsoring a stage reading titled, in recognition of Black History Month, "The Meeting, a Dialogue on Ideology and Purpose."

Save the Date: Active Shooter Drill
An active shooter drill will take place on March 5 at 10:15 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes. Additional details will be forthcoming.

Fullerton College Leads in Enrollment
Fullerton College experienced the largest community college enrollment growth in the United States in 2012-2013, according to data released by the National Center for Education Statistics and published in Community College Week. Fullerton College saw a 23.8 percent enrollment increase in 2012-2013. College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita had the second largest growth with a 21.9 percent increase. Growth continued at Fullerton College into 2013-2014, when the college saw an 18.6 percent spike in students. Read more...

President's Forum for 2015
In an effort to encourage communication and strengthen teamwork across campus, President Rajen Vurdien has scheduled a series of open forums. The president encourages all students, faculty and staff to attend this monthly forum. The next open forum is on Feb. 9 from 2-3 p.m. in room 224 in building 200. 4/10 Summer Schedule Starts June 1 

The four-day, 10-hour workweek will begin June 1 and end Aug. 14. For information about workweek exceptions, alternatives and more, contact Sandy Cotter, Human Resources, NOCCCD.


Chancellor Retirement

Chancellor Ned Doffoney has announced his plans to retire in February, read the Chancellor's memo. A retirement celebration will be on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 5-8 p.m. at the Anaheim Sheraton Hotel. The invitation can be found hereplease send the RSVP by Feb. 2.

A farewell open house honoring Doffoney will be Feb. 4 from 3-5 p.m. at the Anaheim campus; all staff are invited.

Rideshare Newsletter

This monthly newsletter details information, news and events for the Rideshare program. This program encourages employees to use alternate means of transportation including carpooling, walking or bicycling. Participants are eligible for monthly incentives and prizes. Blackboard Training Courses
Spring training focuses on the Full Grade Center in Blackboard Learn 9.1. Other topics in Blackboard Learn will be covered on request. Instructors are invited to participate using their Full Grade Center. Workshops are held in the TEC beginning Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 2-3:30 p.m. Register in myGateway.


2015 Innovation Fund Application Open

The innovation fund program is designed to provide financial support for faculty and staff to develop new projects, programs and procedures for the improvement of the college. The submission period is open until March 1. GLADE Welcomes New and Continuing Employees to Join

GLADE is a district-recognized advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees. Activities include working with on-campus LGBT clubs, offering scholarships, participation in diversity committees and more. Food Bank Open to Donations

The Inter-Club Council is restarting its non-perishable food drive for the Chris Lamm and Toni DuBois-Walker Memorial Food Bank from Feb. 2 to May 1. Drop-off locations are being confirmed and will be available soon. Please help support Fullerton College students and consider contributing a food item.

Information Booths

Information booths will be available to offer student assistance during the first week of the spring semester. A map of the booth locations is available.

Other Fullerton College Newsletters 

Various departments at Fullerton College publish newsletters filled with important information for students. This month's newsletters include Cadena Cultural and Transfer Center and the Honors Program.
 
Teacher of the Year Nominations
Recognize faculty who have made a difference in your education. Nominations are available from now through Feb. 5, 5 p.m. Fill out the nomination form and deliver it to Student Affairs, room 223 or Associated Students, room 222.

USC Applications Due Feb. 1

The Common Application is used by many private and independent universities, including USC. If you are considering applying to these schools please check their websites to view deadlines and requirements. Be sure to allow ample time to complete the application and request recommendations. Learn how to apply to private and out-of-state schools at several workshops. The first workshop begins Thursday, Jan. 29 from 2-3 p.m. in room 212.

GLADE Applications for Scholarships 

This scholarship encourages and supports students whose activities contribute to the advancement of LGBT causes while fostering a positive image of the LGBT community. All qualified candidates regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, ability status, age or religious affiliation are encouraged to apply. Applications will be available online at the Fullerton College Cadena Cultural Center website from Jan. 26 to March 26.


The Natural World Jan. 29-Feb. 19
The Fullerton College Art Gallery will be holding an opening reception for the exhibit, The Natural World on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit will be available Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. - noon and 2-4 p.m.


Featuring artists Adonna Khare Artist and Jon Ng, while looking outward at the natural world, these artists reveal much about themselves.

Opera Workshop Jan. 30-Feb. 1
The Fullerton College Music Department will be hosting the Opera Workshop in the college's Recital Hall through the weekend. The performance will be approximately 90 minutes. Tickets for adults are $10, and students and senior tickets are $7. The performance runs on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. 


Women's Basketball
The Lady Hornets put their work in at home Friday night beating a strong Saddleback College team 85-81 in the span of 3 overtime periods. The win bumps Fullerton to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the loss gives Saddleback an overall record of 10-11 and an OEC record of 1-3.  Up Next: Fullerton will take on Cypress College in the Hornets Nest on Jan. 23. Men's Basketball
The Fullerton College men's basketball team spent the day at the Los Angeles Laker practice facility last Monday learning a few things from the pros. No, the Hornets did not play or practice with the Lakers, but they did spend the day learning from some of the game's best teachers. Laker head coach Byron Scott and staff personally welcomed Fullerton giving tips and insight into the game of basketball. Women's Sand Volleyball
The California Community College Athletic Association  is pleased to announce that spring 2015 marks the first season women's sand volleyball is being recognized as a sanctioned CCCAA championship sport. After years of discussion and great perseverance from many individuals and organizations, women's sand volleyball has officially become the 24th CCCAA sanctioned sport. This is the first new sport sponsored by the CCCAA since women's badminton was added in 2000 and women's golf in 1995. Read more ...

Hornet runners Daisy Esparza and Alethea Streeter are moving on to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. After a very successful community college career, Daisy Esparza and Alethea (AKA Tia) Streeter, move up to the next level to run for the Mustangs. Both ladies, mid-year transfers, are ready to compete for the Mustangs for this 2015 Track and Field season. "I am excited to have these two wonderful ladies. They will fit into our family and program. Their hard work fits our mold and will help with the team competitiveness", Head Coach, Koby Styles for MSU. Read more...
