A Hero's Welcome: Shane Victorino
Visits Macy's

Red Sox slugger Shane Victorino, one of the stars of the team's amazing playoff run that ended in World Series victory, met hundreds of adoring fans at the downtown Macy's last Friday afternoon.

Following a lively introduction by Macy's GM Craig Davis (above), Victorino was mobbed by eager reporters (below) for several minutes. He then signed memorabilia for the crowd, many of whom had waited for several hours to greet the ballplayer.

Congratulations to Macy's for hosting such a fabulous event!

Another Hero's Welcome: Bill Russell Statue Unveiled

Last Friday was a big day for celebrating Boston sports heroes in downtown, as Celtics great Bill Russell was honored with a new statue dedicated to his life.

Created by Ann Hirsch, the sculpture was unveiled to numerous NBA legends and business and civic leaders, including Mayor Thomas M. Menino, NBA Commissioner David Stern, Celtics co-owner and BID Director David Epstein, and Celtics luminaries Tommy Heinsohn, Sam Jones, and JoJo White.

Located at the northeast corner of 28 State Street, the statue makes for a dramatic addition to City Hall Plaza. Congratulations to Russell, Hirsch, the Celtics, and everyone else involved with bringing this great piece of public art to life!

Kingston-Bedford Island Reconstruction Complete

Just a block away from the recently re-engineered Ave. de Lafayette (now a two-way street), the reconstruction of the Kingston-Bedford traffic island is now complete.

With its set-back from the curb, protective fencing, and new plantings, the reconstructed traffic island is safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists, and also more aesthetically pleasing. Congratulations to the Boston Transportation Department and the BRA for their hard work on this multi-month project.
