The Boston Police Department is alerting businesses to an emerging scam targeting Boston business owners. An unknown male caller, claiming to be an employee of NSTAR, is asking that businesses pay their utility bill with a Green Dot MoneyPak card. The caller says failure to pay will result in the power to the establishment being shut off.

If any person or company calls to ask for payment to be made specifically with these cards, the Boston Police Dept. recommends you do not comply. Anyone with information related to this recent scam is asked to contact District 4 Detectives at 617-343-5619.

Traffic Improvement: Avenue De Lafayette Now Two-Way

In a successful effort to significantly improve traffic circulation downtown, the Boston Transportation Department has recently changed Ave. de Lafayette to a two-way street between Washington St. and Chauncy St.

Drivers heading north on Washington St. will now be able to turn right onto Ave. de Lafayette, then left on Chauncy St. The change clarifies the traffic patterns along Washington St., and will help eliminate vehicles inadvertently driving through the Downtown Crossing Pedestrian Zone.

The Downtown Boston BID thanks the BTD for its hard work on this major improvement!

"Banned In Boston" History Display Opens At New Kensington Tower

The new Kensington residential tower recently unveiled a permanent window display on Boston's early 20th-century theater history, including the "Banned In Boston" phenomenon.

Enforced by the former Watch & Ward Society, "Banned in Boston" was a catchphrase for the group's censorship of certain books, movies, and plays deemed "objectionable." As recently as 1970, the display describes, the Boston production of the musical "Hair" was temporarily shut down and charged with obscenity.

The display is located on the Washington St. face of the Kensington, at 665 Washington St.
