NEW OCCUPATION CEILINGS FOR PROGRAMME YEAR 2016/17
The new ceilings for occupations on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) has been released! These affect points tested visas under the general skilled migration programme. We've done a little comparison between that of programme year 2015/16 and the programme year 2016/17, which is really right around the corner, and here are the results. We've marked up anything that has had a significant change of over 20%.


Wonderful news for..
  • [1332] Engineering Managers, for whom there are now 1407 spots for, a huge 39% increase
  • [2211] Accountants held a quota of 2525 spots which has now increased by a rather significant amount to 4777, with the biggest increase of 89%
  • [2212] Auditors, Company Secretaries and Corporate Treasurers have increased from 1000 to 1413 (41%)
  • [2525] Physiotherapists now have 1345 spots (22%)
  • [2539] Other Medical Practitioners with an increase of 32% to a ceiling of 1315
  • [2713] Solicitors going up by the third largest - 58% - to 5154
  • [2723] Psychologists from 1212 to 1532 (26%)
  • [3421] Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics at the second highest increase of 64% to 1701
Unfortunately..
  • [2332] Civil Engineering Professionals have dropped 26% to leave only 2174
  • [2631] Computer Network Professionals have 1426 spots to compete for (-28%)

Overall, there's been a 6% increase in spaces from 149,427 to 158,520, not considering the occupations that are no longer on next year's occupation list. Whether you are affected or not, this does present an angle on the job market in Australia, or at least the government's perspective on it!
