Today, we highlight the fact that the visas that were meant to be discontinued at the end of the financial year in June have been ceased Monday onward making today the last day to lodge valid applications .

A Stop on certain visa applications: Update

Stress - business person stressed at office. Business woman holding coffee cup with STRESS written.

In what can only be termed as an underhand, sneaky move completely contradictory to the motto of the Dept of Immigration "people our business" it has been announced that today is the last day to lodge the visas that are meant to be discontinued from the new financial year starting July 1, 2014.

It had been earlier announced that "the date of cessation will be announced shortly", however in a move that many have labelled as unfair to customers  the legislation to repeal the visas was signed off by the governor general yesterday and will come into effect on Monday, which means that applications must be validly lodged today. You can access the actual migration amendment here.

The 'other family' and non-contributory parent visas to be discontinued include the following:

  • Parent -Subclass -Subclass 103
  • Aged Parent- Subclass 804
  • Aged Dependent Relative - Subclass 114
  • Aged Dependent Relative -Subclass 838.
  • Remaining Relative- Subclass 115
  • Remaining Relative -Subclass 835
  • Carer-Subclass -Subclass 116
  • Carer - Subclass 836
