grapeI Heard It Through the Green Grapevine

This recurring feature will help dispel the myths and rumors we often hear through the Girl Scout "Green Grapevine." Most of the answers can be found in our Essentials documents in the Volunteer Vault.

Dear Green Grapevine-

I was notified that my meeting place needs a COI from Girl Scouts. What is it and how do I get it?

Thanks-

Alice Well

A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is often required by outside facilities that host Girl Scout activities, including Troop meetings. This Certificate confirms to the facility that Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida has insurance coverage to protect the facility in the event of a liability or property damage that may arise as a result of the troop or group's activities.

If a Certificate of Insurance is required by the facility, please email volunteer@gssef.org at least 10 business days in advance. In order to expedite the process be sure to include: your name (it doesn't always show up in your email address, so please list it), your contact information (email and phone), the name and address of the facility requesting the COI, and an email to which the COI should be sent (a copy can be sent to both the facility and you for your records). It is important to note that COI's are processed on Council business days, Monday through Thursday.

bronzeNew Bronze Award Reporting in 2014

Should girls in 4th and 5th grades earn the GSUSA Bonze Award? Yes! Is the Bronze Award a leadership adventure and the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve? Yes, again!

Juniors can team-up to plan and complete a Take Action Project; from there girls develop more confidence, meet new people, and have the kind of fun that happens when you work with others to make a difference.
Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award involves the time to complete a Junior-level Journey - followed by 20 hours of work on the project of their choice. Activities include: building the team, exploring community needs, planning the project, putting it all into action and completing the final report.

New in 2014, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida now offers a Bronze Award Final Report Form, so girls can work with their Leaders to easily capture their projects in one place and track their hours. It's super simple to use and helps us see the amazing stuff girls are doing in our communities year-round. No deadline for these reports! The new Bronze Award Final Report Form is accepted 365-days-a year.
