 Council Wide Announcements & Calendar

Marketing Minute

You can always tell about your Scouting story and try to recruit new youth no matter what time of the year is is. With the approach of Halloween, don't forget to use your candy as a recruiting tool. How? (No, don't drive around the neighborhood in your van offering candy to kids - that's frowned upon, ha-ha!) Instead, as the ghosts, goblins, pirates, super heros, and other characters knock on your door, give them your goody and have one of these fine recruiting labels stuck to your snack or gift!  You will find them here titled "Candy Labels".

We've had a busy fall with lots of events. From the new Scout rocket launches at each district's Welcome to Scouting event to the fall camporee at the Fair Oaks Farm to the Cub Haunted Weekend, your unit should have plenty to share about their experiences. Don't forget to send that photo and paragraph to your local newspaper! A picture IS worth a thousand words, so make sure your unit is "speaking" loudly to its community.

NOTICE TO ALL MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS:

If you have received a letter stating that D76: Merit Badge Counselor Orientation is required, you may ignore this. D76 Merit Badge Counselor Orientation has been postponed online until the start of 2016. All that is required at this point for Merit Badge Counselors to renew registration membership is Youth Protection Training.

2015 Family Investment in Character Campaign

Did your unit enjoy a visit to Cary Camp this year or experience having someone at the Service Center answer the phone?  Did you access a Scouting website or receive support for your unit's programming? Did a youth receive a scholarship, campership, or other assistance? If so, then your unit benefited from some of the many programs offered by Sagamore Council for support! These programs and many more are supported by funds donated by individual families and community members. It is expected that all units allow a presentation so that families on their own can decide if they would be willing to support programs like this. Previously known as Friends of Scouting, the campaign is being renamed Investment in Character to better represent what the program is achieving. Unit leaders should contact Mike Silver to schedule a presentation date now.

Unit Service Hours

Have your service hours been submitted to be tracked for your Journey to Excellence? Submitting them is easy and is a critical part of tracking our success as a council. You can submit service hours through the www.sagamorebsa.org website. You can enter hours that were completed any time within the last calendar year. When turning in your signed charter, please turn in your Journey to Excellence Scorecard which can be found here.

District Awards  Nominations

Do you know of an outstanding Scouter who has helped make the program fantastic this year? Nominate him or her for an award! Every unit can select one leader per 30 boys registered for a "Spark Plug" award. Other awards include the Outstanding Cub Scout Leader, Outstanding Boy Scout Leader, Outstanding Venturing Leader, District Award of Merit, Hall of Fame, and the Hank Boze Award for Boy Scouts. Award forms are on the District Page on the council website.

District Award  Reception

The 2015 District Award Reception will be held at St. Andrews in West Lafayette on December 3rd at 7pm. This awards reception will be where award winners receive their awards, and serve as a good social gathering for Scouters. Registration is $15 per unit, regardless of how many people will be attending. We do ask that each unit provide a shareable dessert per 5 attendees, so that people may truly enjoy the night!  If you have any questions, please Email Mitchell Ahnert for more information, or get registered today on CampMaster.

Nominations Being Accepted

The Wabash Valley District is now accepting nominations for Scouters who you think belong on the District Committee. The only requirement going in is that a person be willing to help, we can help place you in a spot that would match your passions! If interested, please email District Chair Mike Boebinger.

Eagle Board and Project Approval Changes

For Peshewa, Jerry Price has stepped away from Eagle Boards. We want to thank Jerry for his service in providing quality Eagle Boards here in the District. Going forward have been operationally changes to how Eagle Boards and process will work going forward in the Peshewa District.

For Eagle Project approval, Scouts who have an Eagle project ready to obtain project approval should bring their project to Roundtable where they can meet with the Project approver. Scouts will have to make the presentation there and get any questions answered at that time.
Once Scouts finish their project, they should submit their Eagle Packet to the Council office for Verification. To go in a particular month's board, Scouts have to have all materials needed turned in the Monday a week before the Eagle Board.

There are two Eagle Boards in the Peshewa District. The Kokomo Eagle Board will meet on the Second Tuesday of the month. Scouts will be contacted to confirm their Eagle Board. All Kokomo Eagle Boards will be held at Indiana University Kokomo Board and chaired by Dr. Giesecke.  The Kokomo Board will cover Howard and Miami County.
In Marion, They will follow the same process for Eagle Project approval. For Eagle Boards they will be scheduled as needed and will be hosted in Marion. Scouts in Wabash and Grant County will participate in the
Marion Eagle Board.

Those having questions and needing guidance on the whole process should contact Daniel Carbaugh at the Scout office.
