It's been a while since I received a note about
The Perfect Edge; The Ultimate Guide to Sharpening for Woodworkers. It took me 2 years to write (including taking photographs and keeping Hock Tools running) and was published in 2009, so it's been some time since I began that project.
For some reason, a November 1st email thanking me for the book reminded me why I accepted Popular Woodworking Books' request that I write
The Perfect Edge. I had learned so much over the years and had answered question after question about tool steels, sharpening, edges, and the minutia of these things that I, too, needed the information shaped, organized, and even a few of my ideas verified and/or tested for their best description, analyses, and evidence. All of it came together extremely well - stressed as I may have been during those months writing and taking photographs - and I'm still happy with the results.
Most important now, though, it feels great to know
The Perfect Edge continues to be relevant to woodworkers. Thanks for such great comments and commendations. When asked to sign a copy I feel I've become an even deeper part of what makes people make things, do things for themselves, create something that will last and be useful over time.
Thanksgiving is around the corner. You will probably agree that Linda and I have much to be thankful for, certainly when it comes to
The Perfect Edge, Hock Tools and woodworkers who use, build and maintain their handtools. We are busy - in a good way - and hope you are too. What could be better? Happy Thanksgiving!
