WOODWORKING HANDTOOLS:

The Proud & Unplugged

Shaving

The best surface

is produced

 by a handplane.

  You can see it.

  You can feel it.

  There is nothing like

that satin touch

under your fingertip.

No plug, no noise.

A single woodworker,

a well-tuned handtool,

and the rhythm of work

on a nice piece of wood.

Just to keep you in the loop, Hock Tools is taking a big step during the next month. After 32 years of a home-based business, we're moving the shop and shipping department into town. We bought a sweet building at  711 North Main Street in Fort Bragg here on the Mendocino Coast of Northern California.

So, if you want to drop by the shop, as usual, please give us a call at (888) 282-5233. That way we're ready for you. Then, beginning on June 1st, driving north into Fort Bragg on Highway One, which becomes Main Street, keep an eye out for 711 North Main. The nearest cross street is Bush Street. Hock Tools is located downstairs, two doors from Bush Street, on the west side of the street. We'll see you there.

Everything else remains the same at Hock Tools: phone, website, my home-based office. Larry and Mark (shop and shipping) will spend their time at the new digs. II'll be there as needed while working on new projects in the old shop here at the house. Linda's going to try a couple of days a week working in town to see if it suits her. She misses the social aspect of the bookstore days and is already making lunch dates and plans to take her beloved walk along the breathtaking Fort Bragg headlands, which is extremely close to Hock Tools' new digs.

In the meantime, of course, please let me know if there's anything you need from Hock Tools.

Sincerely,

Chapter 13, pg. 193, Polish the back...  Polish the back of your marking knife as you would a  chisel.

From Chapter 13, page 193 of The Perfect Edge by Ron Hock:

Marking knives are usually one-sided, so flatten and polish the back, then work on the bevel(s). The tip, or skew, angle is often quite acute...
